Basic Law Enforcement Training at Stanly Community College

BLET consists of 36 essential topics, which include lecture and hands on practical exercises. The program is 624 hours mandated by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Once the student has completed BLET they will be eligible to sit for the state written exam. The student will then have one year from the date of the state exam to be hired by a North Carolina law enforcement agency. She was on a crusade to give back and help clean up the challenged community. What began with a small idea has developed in to nothing short of monumental accomplishment.

March 14th – 15th Wilderness Search & Rescue I (Basic Mantracking) EPT 360001-100

To instruct Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel, Law Enforcement, and other personnel with first response capability in the basic fundamentals of man tracking a person in a wilderness environment during both day and night time conditions.
Objectives:
1. Familiarization with tracking terms.
2. Locate and identify sign in both day and night hours to find a starting point to begin tracking.
3. Provide the student with some tracking knowledge and procedures in order for the student to enhance and practice their tracking skills on their own.
4. Develop a foundation of tracking experience for future advanced tracking training.
5. Demonstrate the use of the tracking stick/sign cutting stick in determining track size, stride of the subject and determine a direction of travel.
6. Familiarization with evidence and scent preservation.
7. Demonstrate lost track procedures by using sign cutting to locate sign.
8. Demonstrate the ability to look and see ground sign, aerial sign, and blood sign in both day and night time conditions.
9. Familiarization with the use and contents of the SAR 24 hour ready pack.
10. Describe the information obtained from sign.
Materials Required: Pen or pencil / Note Pad / Flash Light / 42” Tracking Stick / Tape / Flagging Tape.
The uniform for this course will be a field uniform, no class A's. Good walking shoes/boots, a flashlight, clothing suitable for the weather, and a means of water re-hydration, IE. camel back or canteen.

March 16th – 18th Wilderness Search & Rescue II (Mantracking: Tactical Operations) EPT 360002-100

To instruct Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel, Law Enforcement, and other personnel with first response capability in man tracking a person in a wilderness environment during both day and night time conditions utilizing tactical operations to safely and securely move, track and the lost or evasive subject.
Objectives:
1. Tactical tracking team member’s duties and responsibilities with situational awareness and knowledge of the operational area.
2. Team communications and camouflage and concealment.
3. Command team operations, duties and responsibilities.
4. Tactical tracking team formations and security considerations.
5. Categorizing the evader and tracking the evader (runaways, escaped convicts and terrorist).
6. Factors that affect evasion; preparation, opportunity, motivation and principles of evasion.
7. Lost track procedures day and night.
8. K-9 tracking team advantages and disadvantages.
9. Counter tracking techniques.
10. Search urgency determination.
Materials Required: Pencil or Pen / Note Pad / Flashlight / Tracking Stick or equivalent / Measuring Tape / Night Vision Device / Tactical Gear appropriate as per Agency / Flagging Tape / Binoculars / Radio for Team Communication with Command / Clothing suitable for the environment

Classes will be held at Morrow Mountain State Park. 49104 Morrow Mountain Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001. Once you arrive at the park, go to the park office.
Special request: please minimize the impact on the park’s natural and cultural resources. Do not cut, remove or damage any vegetation, rocks, minerals or artifacts.
