A FB page for the recently redesigned City Lake Park DGC.
It only took 4 years but we finally have all the pads in. Thanks for all the help!
All the pads are in and we are coming down to the final touches (rubber mats, kiosks, map and additional benches). If you have had an opportunity to play the course please give us a review on DGCR. If not, here is some information on the course.
dgcoursereview.com The course is in very playable shape. Still a few trees to be removed and other smaller projects. Signage is very good and easy to navigate. Only holes 13 and 15 do not currently have 2 pads.
We put the easy ones in first and now we're finally finishing the reinforcing of the remaining tee areas.
We expect to pour concrete this weekend!
Work weekend this weekend (11/18-11/19). With the chance of rain we decided to focus on finishing the reinforcements so we can definitely get the rest of the pads poured in 1 day.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Shovels, hard rakes, tape measures, gloves...digging stuff.
Thanks for all the help. Let's finish this year on a strong note.
Here is a modest course map until we get one "professionally" done.
We should have the rest of the tee pads installed over the next couple months.
I need to post some pictures of all the work we've done...it's looks a bit different!
City Lake Park DGC
With the help of the Albemarle Disc Golf Association, Stanly Countycvb, City of Albemarle - City Government and last but not least, Albemarle Parks and Recreation, we have raised the money to finish the grading, install the concrete tee pads and install the permanent tee signs and trashcans. Work will begin in September and we hope to have it fully playable shortly after.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. We'll keep you posted.
PS...I'll post up some new pictures shortly.
Don't forget, starting this weekend we are doing 10 am Am Leagues at Oakboro District Park (short) on Saturday and City Lake Park (short) on Sunday. Hope to see you come out.
$5 entry, $1 optional ace pool. Handicapped scoring.
City Lake Park DGC
The Albemarle Disc Golf Association's handicap league starts back at City Lake this Sunday at 10am and runs until the end of the year. $5 with optional $1 ace pool. After your first round we will adjust your score to reach par so the player that shoots the highest compared to their average will win.
We will be playing the full 18 from the short pads (where available). Please keep in mind that the course is still very new and the tee areas are natural and being leveled.
Thanks for coming out and supporting the club and Albemarle's newest course!
The ADGA's tournament season is over and it's officially time to get back to work and finish the new City Lake Park Disc Golf Course.
All 18 baskets are in and we are in the process of installing modest tee signs on all the tees and we have marked the directional arrows to help you navigate in between.
We will be leveling the tee areas and reinforcing them with railroad ties. Once finished we can start working on the concrete pads. We need volunteers...
This is/was a very large project and we appreciate all the help (and patience) you have given.

The ADGA will be running a Disc Golf Station at this weekend's Celebration of Play!
Bring the kids and those young at heart for a great day of sports fun at City Lake Park. 10:00 to 12:00.
Hosted by the Albemarle Parks and Recreation department.
In 1921 and early 1922, the City of Albemarle recognized the need for a better water supply. On April 4th of 1922, the city awarded a contract to the Hardaway Contracting Company for the construction of a dam on Long Creek. The design and supervision of this project was done by a team led by Gilbert C. White of Durham, the Consulting Engineer. The dam was to be 25 feet high and 400 feet long. It was to be built of the same types of concrete that the Hardaway Company used when they constructed the Narrows Dam near Badin.
The dam was completed in February of 1923 and the reservoir was filled by March. When it reached capacity it covered 125 acres of land. The total cost for the project was $96,129.29. The dam and water plant, located downstream, were used for a number of decades as the primary water source for the city.

Saturday 6/13, 2:00.
The Fox Chase monthly is this Saturday at 10am sharp. Afterwards, we'll grab a bite to eat and then we're having a work day at City Lake. If we can get the last few holes dragged and cleaned up we can drop the back 9's baskets next week! Come out if you want to have another 18 hole course in Albemarle and Stanly County. Once the baskets are in we will focus on levelling the tee pads for concrete.
We (ADGA) have a work day scheduled for this Saturday, 5/9 at 10:00 or earlier at City Lake Park. We'll meet at the dumping area near hole #3's tee.
Everyone who participates will be eligible to play in a random doubles event following the work day. We will donate $10 per helper towards the payouts - $200 max.
We will be dragging holes 11 and 12 and more if time allows. We could really use your help and if you have a 4 wheeler and small trailer we will make it worth your while if you can bring them.
Thanks for all your help!
