Since Alexandria doesn't have the ability to share her voice, I'm here to share her story. On July 30, 2009, we received the difficult news that Alexandria has Rett Syndrome, an insidious genetic disorder caused by a random mutation of the X chromosome - MECP2 gene. This devastating genetic disorder is not hereditary and happens primarily in girls. It is so rare that it happens in 1 in 10,000 births.

The disease causes rapid developmental regression in girls, which robs them of speech, fine motor skills, purposeful use of their hands, and the ability to walk. In Alexandria case it has lead to early onset scoliosis, arrhythmia, breathing difficulties, and a host of other symptoms. In simple terms, Alexandria capable brain is trapped in a body that she cannot control nor command due to Apraxia.

With assistance from multiple doctors and therapists, we have designed a comprehensive protocol, which includes strict dietary requirements, multiple nutritional supplements, and daily therapy/exercise sessions designed to hopefully recover skills, which the disorder has stolen, and to battle to maintain the abilities she has. Alexandria is a tenacious, determined, and fierce fighter...she still walks in her walker. Her hand movments have became hand wringing or are in her mouth. Alexandria can no longer pick things up or feed herself. (she has only minimal use of her right hand), but we are fighting to retain the strength she has. She has lost most of her ability to speak, but we will fight to re-learn those words and learn new ways to speak with her eyes.

This rigorous protocol will be a part of her everyday life. It is costly, and will continue into Alexandria adulthood. We know with this protocol and intense therapy she will maintain and strengthen the skills she has fought so hard to regain.

We want to hear Alexandria's sweet voice again. We want to see her ride her bike without velcro gloves to grip the handles, and straps to hold her feet in place. We want her to dress herself, feed herself, and walk up and down stairs. We want to see her continue to move and for her to use both of her hands - we want to make her as independent as possible. We want to ease her pain, and improve her breathing. Rett Syndrome is a daily battle, and a lifetime challenge. Until a cure is found, your help is appreciated beyond anything words can express.

We still have our dreams for Alexandria. We will not quit, we will not give up....SHE will not give up. That is just the way Team Alex rolls.

The MIX game room & skate park:
'MIXING IT UP' since 2000 The MIX Gameroom & Skatepark is an amazing youth facility.There is a little something for everyone.

We have a beautiful, well designed, and built concrete skate park. The game room has a pool table, foosball, ping pong table, Xbox 360 & wii console gamer corners, and comfortable seating for everyone.. The facility is air conditioned and heated, has FREE wifi, cold water fountains and clean bathrooms.
