The new school year has started, and we're kicking things off with a fun (and safe) in-person melon tasting! Kids are excited to see their CWK educators and are really eager to cook (which will be soon!). In the meantime, we're introducing the basics of Cooking with Kids like hand-washing, using our five senses, and acknowledging individual preferences (a.k.a. "don't yuck my yum"). Kids are also learning about local farmers who grow melons--just this week, we used nearly 700 pounds of local melons, including watermelons, canary melons, and cantaloupe!

Los Cursitos were very excited to see that funding to move forward with the design and construction of a Multi-Use Sports Stadium was included in the City of Albuquerque’s top funding priorities for the 2021 state legislative session. We thank Mayor Tim Keller and the city government for recognizing how impactful such a stadium could be for our community. Obviously we are eager to see our beloved New Mexico United move to a long-term home designed as a place where we can come together to celebrate and root them on. We also know that a well-designed and smartly located stadium can boost the economy and serve as an anchor to bring communities together. We sincerely hope that the legislature will take this request into consideration in the state budget, and help bring our dream one step closer to becoming a reality.
If any Cursitos families would like to support this effort, please consider sending a letter to your elected officials. Below is a sample letter which you can modify to make your own. If you don’t know who your state representative and senator are you can go to NMLegis.gov and click on the ‘Legislators’ tab and choose ‘Find my Legislator’.

Sample Letter:
Dear Senator/Representative ???-
I am writing to ask for your support in funding the design and construction of a Multi-Use Sports Stadium during the 2021 New Mexico Legislative Session. As a member of Los Cursitos, the kid’s branch of the New Mexico United fan support group, I am very excited at the idea of having our own stadium where we can cheer on the team we love! I also think a stadium would be a great place to have other events, like concerts and high school sports championships, and could be good for the businesses in the neighborhood around it. I am thankful that Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller decided to include this project in his priorities for state funding this year. I hope that you will do the same.
Sincerely,

Friends and Amig@s, Many of us celebrated Juneteenth this weekend. As we work to dismantle systemic racism in our country, we are exploring how to do that work in our families and with our kids.

This reading by Arthur Bell and his daughter, Alayah, asks why princesses so often have white skin and what that means for black girls and women's self-image.

Please join us in listening and reflecting on this reading!
