Supported (with appreciation) by NMA, the New Mexico Ballet Company’s Nutcracker Ballet is a decades-long tradition in Albuquerque. The show is always presented the weekend that immediately follows Thanksgiving as well as the weekend after that. Special performances by current New York City Ballet Principal dancers and live music by the New Mexico Philharmonic, conducted by David Felberg make for an exhilarating collaboration between extraordinary artists. NMBC also presents a Choreographer’s Collective in the Fall, a full-length ballet collaboration with the NM Philharmonic in the early Spring, and a performance of guest choreographer’s work in the late Spring.

Initial capacity restrictions kept classes small, but by fall, we were able to have full company classes again. Our dancers have been committed to fostering a safe and healthy environment, which has kept the studio open.

Tuesday, November 30 marks , a day of generosity. The world has changed in many ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but our need for the arts remains the same. This past weekend, the excitement and desire for live arts and entertainment was apparent as we returned to the stage at Popejoy Hall for the first time in over 18 months. The buzz of anticipation on boths sides of the curtain was electric. All involved – the dancers, backstage crew, audience members, and more – relished the familiarity and joy of live performance once again.

The New Mexico Ballet Company would not be able to keep its doors open without generous support from our community, whether it be through show attendance or the kindness of a donation. This , NMBC aspires to raise funds to support the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep our organization dancing. From office supplies and utility bills to paying our faculty and staff for their tireless work training our students, these day-to-day needs are essential for keeping our company of artists in the spotlight. As we look forward to the new year and our 50th anniversary, we are on the move to a studio facility of our own. Now more than ever, your support will ensure our new doors remain open and welcoming to future generations of dancers pursuing their dreams in the studio and onstage.

We have all felt the weight of the pandemic and need a sense of belonging in our community. During the past 18 months, NMBC worked non-stop to create safe spaces both virtual and in person for students of all ages to be creative, foster friendships, and build community through dance. From the creative process to the glamor of a performance, the beauty and joy of dance transcend the studio and stage, enriching the lives of so many. Join us this and help us continue to positively contribute to the future of arts education and live performance in our community!
