Having a blast at the 4 Corners 4x4 Week!
Pictures of the run on Backstage Pass and Brandon's Boulders with the in preparation the annual .challenge4x4 event in October πΆ
It was a good day, no breakage, just a little more rock rash.
Do you know what custom King shocks and babies have in common? They both take over 9 months to show up π³
I finally got the 2.5" dia. 14" travel short body King smoothies I ordered for the 4600 Bronco at the end of last November, but they sure look nice! I got them with welded lower reservoir hoses, finned race reservoirs, and welded lower rod ends to try and stuff them under the required factory inner fenders. was great to work with and included custom valving with a consultation about my specific application in the price. I'd highly recommend them for anyone buying shocks for a custom application.

A few more pictures from The attendance was great, pictures don't do it justice, but they almost ran out of parking at the Area 51 staging in Caballo and at the Robledo air-down in Las Cruces.
Unfortunately not a whole lot of vehicular diversity as usual anymore; I am pretty sure I was the only person representing the blue oval both days.
Had a great time wheeling with everybody who's somebody at in Caballo and Las Cruces this past weekend.
It is always a good time on the V rock on Sandia Gulch and the first time I've run that trail in about 15 years. There were a few folks that needed a helping hand π€«
Happy Fathers' Day to the man responsible for getting me into four wheeling and camping!
Also a bonus throwback to his '81 3/4 ton Suburban that was responsible for getting me hooked.
Some more pictures from Farmington! The weather was beautiful and the dog had a blast chasing lizards.
I had a great time cruising Choke Cherry with my lovely wife and the dog. Things can get pretty hairy in a narrow, short-wheelbase in a hurry, but fortunately there weren't any mishaps on this trip.
These pictures are from the drop down on to Upper Rim.

Had a good time getting out last weekend and managed not to break the Bronco II. Unfortunately the same can't be said about the RZRβ¦ Is tires up Tuesday a thing? π¬
Hanging out with the old man in the shop last weekend πΊ
Looking forward to working on the CH2 after finishing the race Bronco. I've collected all the drivetrain bits except for a transfer case. What would you go with, an Atlas or the new Dana 300? π€
Hell yeah, my Atlas transfercase from just showed up!
It was a long wait, but I think it will be worth it. The 3.0:1 gears and 32spline front and rear outputs as well as fl**ge yokes should be a huge improvement over the 2.46:1 gears and 10 spline outputs and 1310 yokes in the original Dana 20 from the race Bronco! Now for the challenge of seeing how flat I can get it between the super narrow frame rails π¬
For anyone else waiting on their Atlas, I ordered this baby on September 2nd for reference.
Oh, and I shouldn't have licked it, you were right, it tasted like gear oilβ¦

I can't believe it has already been a week since the Every Man Challenge at King of the Hammers!
It was an awesome experience supporting the 4653 Team Trail Rig Racing Toyota and I feel like I have learned a lot that will help me when it is my turn in the hot seat. I also met a lot of great people that I hope to see next year! The 4653 was was running a good race until things went wrong at the very end of lap one. I look forward to running against Tom in the future.

It was a killer (albeit cold) week at the Hammers!
I finally brought my own rig out and it was a blast! I'll have to go another time when there isn't so much going on so I can really explore the area. With all the racing, wrenching, and events happening as well as the amount of people (over 100K!) I didn't get to do much driving.
I was out supporting the Trail Rig racing Toyota #4653 driven by Tom Biddle and co-piloted by . I learned a lot and will hopefully be much better prepared whenI get out there in the 4606 race Bronco. I'll post some pictures of the Toyota later this week. Another great event by
I just took delivery of my very own buggy in a box from π
I ordered one of their DIY Cliffhanger 2 chassis which is one of the best looking 2 seater chassis out there in my opinion (swipe to see a rendering from Bent Fab what it should roughly look like when it is finished). The plan for now is a 5.0L Ford, C4, Transfer case TBD, '05+ Superduty axles and 42" tires hopefully. I am looking forward to getting this project going after the race Bronco is finished so I can hang out with the rest of the cool kids in the rocks π

Custom leaf packs just showed up for the race Bronco!
I wanted some custom springs that were longer than the wimpy stock 48" springs that had no hope of living with 14" of travel. Alcan built me some 58" long springs with their custom "orbit eyes" at the rear and a half leaf on top to keep axle wrap under control with the toque from the 347 π
Part 2 of the Chile Challenge πΆpictures, I wish I had more!
It was a killer week at the 30th annual Chile Challenge! πΆ
I didn't get many pictures since I was running solo and busy leading some awesome trails. Fun times and tons of great people at this event put on by and the perfect time of the year for wheeling in southern New Mexico! This is one of my favorite events and should be on your calendar too for next year π
Let me know if you got any pictures of the Bronco II out and about!
Engine parts are here! π
The 302 in the 4606 Bronco should make a bit more than the original 137HP it left the factory with in 1973 π³
It is getting punched out to a 4.030" bore and a stroker crank with a 3.4" throw for a new displacement of 347ci and a ~10:1 static compression ratio. Also going in is a Comp Cams XE264HR camshaft that should improve the top end a bit while maintaining a strong low and mid range power band. It is going to be topped off with a set of GT40P heads and a matching GT40 EFI manifold. ARP studs will hold it all together.
Should do alright keeping up with the Jeeps and Toyotas π
I finally scored a Dana 60U! You would think E350 van rear ends would be a dime a dozen at the junk yards, but you'd be wrong.
So what makes a Dana 60U special? They have a smooth, high-clearance center section casting, 3.5" tubes (legacy Dana 60s were 3.125"), large bore spindles, big disc brakes, and 32 spline axle shafts as opposed to the 30 spline units regular full-floating Dana 60s came with. Oh, and they also have an 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern instead of a silly metric pattern π
It was a killer weekend in Farmington! π
Such an awesome place, I can't wait to go back! All I have to say is those Farmington boys have some balls of steelβ¦
Does anyone have a good C4 bellhousing for a 302/5.0L they are willing to part with?
Shoot me a message if you do, I want to buy it! πΈ
I just finished cleaning over 45 years of grease and dirt off the bell housing just to find out two of the bolt bosses that mount to the tr**ny are severely cracked π
Chris Sparks nailing the same line.
Daniel Butts Killin' it in his buggy this last weekend in Northern New Mexico. The Bronco II broke early on, and it is probably a good thing it did π€
Welcome victimβ¦ er, I mean patient number 3! π¬
The '75 will be donating its C4 to the 4606 race bronco since the original 3 speed manual won't pass muster for Ultra4 racing.
A few more shots from Hole in the Rock Trail π
Stunning views of the great bend in the San Juan river and the deep canyons near Lake Powell at the end of the trail. We also checked out the washout in Lake Canyon that necessitated the re-route of the trail around 2009. It is incredible the amount of dirt that has been washed out of the canton and no picture will ever do it justice. The cottonwoods in Lake Canyon made for a nice final camp on the last night.
Great weekend on the Hole in the Rock Trail!
This was my third time on the this trail which follows a portion of the historic Mormon pioneer route east of Lake Powell. Not the most hardcore trail around, but challenging enough to be fun with some great camping out of the rigs.
Things are heating up at Sharp Motorsports!
Got the new tubes welded up to the centersection so things can get going mocking up the suspension. As a word of caution, Harbor Freight shipping blankets are made of a synthetic materal π¬
Finally scored some cherry race spares! π
I've been on the hunt forever but all the people on Craigslist think less than 7/32 of tread is "like new" and they want 75% of the new price for them π
I scored an almost new set of Toyo M/Ts after over 6 months of looking, good luck to anyone else hunting for a set of used tires that aren't completely roached!
2" lowers are for toys π€£
The race Bronco getting 2.5" DOM lowers for the 3 link. Should strike a nice balance between strength and weight.
More action from Super Crawl weekend at Sand Hollow!
The weather was nice aside from a little wind, the trails were awesome like always, and we met some great people on the trail (although I think some of them might a been a bit nuts π)
Top of the World.
Great day running some trails down in Socorro!
We ran all the less-than-extreme hard trails trouble free. It has been too long since the deuce was out and it was nice to get some dirt on the tires π
I love the smell of fresh rubber! π
Got the tires and internal pneumatic bead locks mounted for the 4606 race Bronco! I think the classic 8 holes are going to look great on the truck.
Keepin' it cutting edge with the 3D printed axle jigs π
Printed out some carrier bearing pucks and tapered sleeves for the axle "C"s so I could keep everything aligned with a piece of 1.5" DOM tubing. Way easier than trying to fabricate something out of metal!
Sanding tires, drilling holes in brand-new wheels, and doing manual mounting. What a dayβ¦
All these people posting about EJS have me missing Moab! I can't believe it has been over five years since I have been there π’
It's too bad the 4606 race Bronco is still under construction so we're missing out on the Ultra4 Area BFE Beatdown this weekend, but hopefully they will race again in Moab next season. You can catch live coverage of the race Saturday at Ultra4racing.com/live/
Got the body tub back from getting blasted! It looks sooo much better without the rattle-can camo paint job!
I am really looking forward to having clean steel to work with since this rig is going to need a lot of love in the sheet metal department. Ford did a great job building the ultimate rust bucket, but at least Broncos look bitchin' π€£
Some killer drone footage Daniel Butts got from the buggy run last weekend!
Buggies on Triple waterfall Buggies and a Toyota on Triple waterfall in the Rio Puerco.
