Meet Coach Wink!

He is a 3x World Champion Kickboxer 🤯
He was a bit of a problem kid, so he got into karate early where he was able to channel his energy. At the age of 21, he started his own gym where he trained boxers and kickboxers.

Years later, he met Greg Jackson & together they formed a partnership and formula that has helped create the world-renowned training facility, Jackson Wink Academy! JacksonWink MMA

Meet Heather Winkeljohn 👊

She’s one of the masterminds behind #SmartGirlSelfDefense! She has degrees in Education & Psychology and is currently pursuing her nursing degree. She learned American Kenpo Karate - which is some of the training you’ll learn in our SGSD classes - and she’s working on her black belt, too!

Is there anything she can’t do?!

She began her self defense career in the 90s & is passionate about teaching young girls & women the basic and practical tips needed for defending themselves to this day!

Tip #3: Learn how to break the rules!

It may not be nice to say “no” to the male coworker who offers to give you a ride somewhere (even if he creeps you out), but go with your gut! Don’t worry about hurting someone else’s feelings if you’re not completely comfortable.

Some situations may require you to literally run away. Don’t feel like you’ll appear weird or odd if you run. Do whatever you can to escape a situation where you’re uncomfortable and learn how to break the rules to remain safe. #SafetyTips #SmartGirl #JacksonWinkMMA

Tip #2: Don’t give out information about you or your family

People love to brag about their kids, their families, their travels (we’re all guilty!) but sometimes this can put information into the wrong hands. Always be aware what information you share and where – even bumper stickers that can let predators know where your children go to school.

Another thing to be very careful of is how much you share on social media. You can geo-tag just about any location, at any time, for anyone to see. Even if your profile is private, your bio information or photos you share can be seen by those who don’t follow you. Always be mindful! #SmartGirl #BePrepared #SafetyTips

Tip #1: Know your exits & escapes

Always take a couple of minutes to scan your environment for threats. If you're indoors, always know where your exits are. Any cause for sudden panic in a public setting can have people stampeding at a main exit. Knowing where the other exits are located can save your life. Look for other ways to get out that don’t follow the crowd: windows, back doors, etc.

In your home, this is just as important. Have an escape plan for your family and kids (places to hide, like crawls paces for example). If you're in your car, the same thought process applies. Is there a dead end that you could be forced into? Is there space around your car, to allow you to move forward, back? For this reason, when you pull up to a light, always allow enough space between you and the car in front of you, so you can move if you need to.

The ways you find out of a situation are not always going to be obvious or conventional, but they could save your life. You have to think outside of the box. #SmartGirl #BePrepared #SafetyTips
