Our team is comprised of players with and without disabilities. Our goal is to make the sport of ice hockey accessible to all and most of all to have fun! Come join us!

How to Beat the Goalie 07/24/2016

Here's a website with some tips on how to beat the goalie. Know what to watch for and how to make the best move!

How to Beat the Goalie As a coach and player I see this scenario all too often. A player gets a clean break, one on one with the goalie. They look down at their stick and shoot, or completely freeze up and then get too close to the goalie to do anything and jam the puck right into his pads …

Sled Hockey Sled (sledge as it's referred to outside the United States) hockey was invented at a Stockholm, Sweden, rehabilitation center in the early 1960s by a group of Swedes who, despite their physical disability, wanted to continue playing hockey.

All the votes have been tallied for our sled hockey team name. Thank you to everyone that voted and submitted all the imaginative team name and logo submissions.

I am excited to announce the official team name is the New Mexico Blade Runners (Logo attached)! Monique Curley, the team goalie, was the individual who submitted the team name and logo. As promised, Monique will receive the free set of carbon fiber sticks—or maybe a carbon fiber goalie stick as it were. Congratulations Monique! We will look at getting the logo printed on the jerseys at some point moving forward.

We are back on the ice next Saturday night at 6:45PM,

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to thank all of you that came out and skated in our Try Sled Hockey for Free event last night. I was a great success. We were able to get 10 individuals into a sled that had never tried it before and about 10 of our regular sled hockey players on the ice as well. Coach Tim Morelock came out and ran a great practice. Each player got a chance to work on some basic skating, stick handling and shooting techniques and everyone got some good touches on the puck.

We hope to see some of the new faces back out in the coming weeks. Feel free to pass along my contact info to anyone else you think may be interested. Our regular sled hockey sessions will be on Saturdays from 6:45PM-7:45PM at the Outpost Ice Arena. The cost is $10 per session. I will send out an email prior to each session to see who will be attending. **If you wish to be removed from the distribution list, just drop me an email.

I would also like to thank Coach Tim and all our volunteers who came out to help. We could not have pulled it off without you all. Thank you to the Outpost Ice Arena for donating the icetime. Lastly, I’d like to thank the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation for supplying the post-skate food and drinks.

Got some of the jerseys in for the players. It is starting to look like a real hockey team... they are playing like it too.
