[03/03/20]   Fresquez Fight Memorabilia Sale to Benefit PAL
Proceeds of Sale at Friday’s “MARCH BADNESS” Boxing Event to Help City Youth Program

(ALBUQUERQUE) The boxers fighting on Friday’s MARCH BADNESS card at Isleta Resort and Casino aren’t the only athletes that will benefit from the event. Fresquez Productions has announced that the proceeds from that night’s sale of fight memorabilia will go to the local non-profit Police Athletic League (PAL).

“PAL has been such an important part of Albuquerque for such a long time that I couldn’t think of a more perfect organization to contribute to,” said Lenny Fresquez, the promoter of March Madness. “For as long as I can remember, they’ve been helping area kids with free athletic programs. Many of these kids couldn’t afford to participate in other programs and leagues, but PAL has always been there to help.”

PAL’s Athletic Director and Head Boxing Trainer Flory Olguin couldn’t thank Fresquez enough. “As a non-profit, we truly appreciate what Lenny is doing for us. It’s difficult to find the finances to do what we do best: that’s helping kids from all parts of the city get through their daily struggles. People look at PAL as a place for kids to learn how to box or wrestle. But some of our kids are from broken homes and poverty, and look to us almost as family.”

Though it may be hard to see the effects that PAL programs have on area kids in their everyday life, it’s very easy to see what the athletic training can accomplish. “Yes, we’ve trained a lot of famous Albuquerque athletes,” said Olguin. “We’re so proud to know that both champions Johnny Tapia and Danny Romero were at one time PAL kids.”

The sale on Friday night will take place just outside the Isleta Casino Showroom, where March Badness will be staged. It will feature memorabilia from Fresquez’s many years of fight promotion. “We’ve got some amazing things for people to take home,” he said. “You’ll find memorabilia from our biggest local events plus all the major pro boxing matches I’ve attended over the years. We’ve got everything from autographed posters to signed gloves. And the best part is that, when you buy something, you’ll be helping PAL make our community better. A big thank you to Isleta for giving us this opportunity to help a great organization.” A list of items is available on Fresquez’s page.

Fresquez also said that fight fans will get the chance to meet some of their local heroes. Having recently celebrated 25 years as a fight promoter, Fresquez is inviting every fighter from every one of his fights to return for a reunion. “Anyone who has fought in a Fresquez fight is invited to attend as my guest,” he said. “I hope they all show up so I can thank them for all the enjoyment I’ve experience in the last 25 years.” Fresquez said those fighters can request tickets prior to Friday by contacting Annie Tu ([email protected]).

Tickets for MARCH BADNESS are on sale right now at the Isleta Resort & Casino Box Office and at isleta.com.

March Badness presents new Main Event challenger
March 7 Boxing Night brings in tougher Filipino for Undefeated Griego
(ALBUQUERQUE) Matthew “Diamond Boy” Griego just discovered that Friday’s 10-round Main Event fight will be against an even tougher opponent. Fresquez Productions has announced that Jeronil Borres will face off against Griego in the final boxing match of MARCH BADNESS at Isleta Resort and Casino this Friday night.
Borres replaces Ronnie Baldonado who was unable to overcome visa problems in the Philippines. Borres is also from the Philippines but was already training in Los Angeles and has made his way to Albuquerque. Borres has a sparkling record of 14 wins (2 by KO) against just 4 losses with one draw. Albuquerque’s Griego is putting his undefeated record on the line.
“It’s a shame that Ronnie couldn’t make it, but Borres is actually a much stronger fighter,” said Lenny Fresquez, the promoter of March Badness. “Matthew told me that he is definitely up for the challenge and is looking forward to matching up against such a respected athlete.” promoter.”
Borres will be introduced to the local media in a press conference set for Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Isleta.
