—— DR. MAGDELENA SANCHEZ ——

It is a new year and I would like to introduce myself. I am a Nationally Certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine and a State Licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine. I graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College, in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine. I have been practicing acupuncture for over nine years and opened my own practice, Desert Sun Acupuncture and Wellness, in 2017.

I was born into a large Latinx family and raised in Albuquerque. I am passionate about the medicine that I practice and also about serving the people in my community. Patients typically ask me why I went to acupuncture school and one of the stories I always tell is about my grandmother. My Nana is 87 years old and she is one of the healthiest people I know! She is extremely active and continues to play basketball to this day. Her team has even won gold medals in the Senior Olympics. My Nana is fiercely independent - she is the type of woman that installs wood floors in her own home. She tells a story about a time when she injured to her back so severely that doctors told her she would need back surgery. However, she opted to try acupuncture first and with time and many acupuncture treatments, her back pain resolved and she never needed the surgery. My Nana has always tried to manage any health issues in ways that have minimal risk of side effects: with acupuncture, taking supplements, chiropractic, etc. This way of living is how I was brought up. I believe in the integration of Eastern and Western medicine. Each can be beneficial depending on the individual circumstance and should be evaluated by a patient and their doctor.

One of my goals in practicing Chinese medicine is to help my patients continue to do the activities that they love and to help them better their overall quality of life. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. I use primarily Chinese style acupuncture, cupping therapy, Chinese herbal medicine, and infrared heat therapy to help my patients achieve better health.

As a Practitioner, I do my best to live by example and take care of my own health. Someone once told me “you cannot serve from an empty vessel” and I took those words to heart. We must care for ourselves first if we want to continue to care for others to the best our ability.
I aim to help my patients gain balanced health to improve their quality of life and believe in educating my patients so that they feel empowered to take responsibility for their own health.

I have had patients come in to my office in severe pain, barely able to walk, and after acupuncture their pain had greatly decreased and they leave the office walking better. I have had patients with frustrating sleep issues that are now sound sleepers due to the powerful medicine of acupuncture. Patients dealing with stress continually tell me that they handle stress more calmly since receiving regular acupuncture. The list goes on and on. Everyone’s body is different and people respond differently and at distinct rates.
Acupuncture can help with many different types of pain, headaches, stress, many emotional imbalances, insomnia, allergies, common cold signs and symptoms, digestive issues, PMS, painful periods, issues during pregnancy, the side effects of cancer treatment, etc.

I am so grateful that I get to practice this powerful medicine and to share a piece of who I am with you.

Please reach out if you have a health concern and are curious if acupuncture can help. More than likely it can (with time and patience). I would love to connect with you.

I hope that 2020 is a beautiful year for you and your health.

Exercise for Sciatica from Spinal Stenosis

We see many patients in our clinic that have been diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis by their MD. Acupuncture can help to manage the pain and numbness associated with Spinal Stenosis, as well as help to improve balance and issues with walking that some patients may experience.
Here are several exercises that can also help with these symptoms.

spine-health.com Sciatica exercises for spinal stenosis include flexion exercises (forward bending) that increase the nerve root passageways and provide sciatic pain relief.

At one time or another, most of us have experienced some form of depression. It can be a natural response to events in our lives that seem overwhelming.
Acupuncture can help to alleviate the signs and symptoms accompanying depression and can safely address the underlying imbalances that have contributed as well.
Acupuncturists are aware of powerful interplay between our body and emotions. When we experience emotional upset, our physiological state may become disrupted. Likewise, when we experience physical problems, our emotions can become greatly affected.

We would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
Please remember, you are not alone.

At some point in our lives, each of us will most likely experience some type of pain (back pain, neck pain, headaches, knee pain, shoulder pain, abdominal pain, etc). Pain is your body's warning signal trying to tell you something is out of balance.

Acupuncture is a time-tested, safe, effective, natural and drug-free way to ease pain.
Unlike some other methods of handling pain, there are no negative side effects.

Acupuncture can help to increase blood circulation, decrease inflammation, and balance the immune system to help the body heal faster.

We would be happy to help you manage any pain you may be experiencing 🖤
