Dimensions School of Dance and Music

Dance and Fitness Classes for All Ages! Easy Access for Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Surrounding Areas!

Dimensions School of Dance is your best choice when it comes to quality instruction, enjoyment of dance and music, professionalism, and convenience. We strive to be the best all-around dance and music school in New Mexico! Our dance and music school primarily serves students from Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and surrounding areas. However, we have students from Edgewood, Los Lunas, Bernalillo, and more. So you are welcome here no matter where you’re from; we are worth the drive! When we first began the school, we focused on preparing young dancers to be competitive dancers in their elementary, middle, and high school dance programs. While that is still one of our focuses, at Dimensions, our goal is to welcome anyone that is interested in dance and music. Whether you look to be a career dancer or musician, or are just interested in those skills as a recreation, our school has a place for you. Ultimately, we want to teach self-confidence, inspire passion, encourage challenges and growth, and provide a professional atmosphere to pursue the dance style or instrument of your choice. Along the way, you build life skills in dedication, commitment, teamwork, creative thinking, and of course relationships. Whether you want ballet, hip hop, jazz, violin, guitar, or piano (and many more styles and instruments) we welcome you. Dimensions School of Dance and Music is always open to expanding our family.

Mission: To provide quality dance and music instruction to students of all ages and skill levels.

Here's a little note from Danielle:
My name is Danielle. I just moved here to New Mexico from Colorado about a month and a half ago and I am so excited it doesn't blizzard over here like it does in Colorado! Some things I enjoy to do on weekends and my free time are attend concerts because I love music so much, and I also like to go to car shows and work on our cars in the summertime, I also like to spend time with family, especially my little girl Arianna who is 6 years old and I like to go out with friends and travel when I can. I'm so excited to be here and be a part of the Dimensions Dance family :)

Our Story

OUR HISTORY

The Realization

In the early 2000's, studio director, Christy Kearney, began to notice something in the dance community. There were good after-school programs for dance (at that time she was a Director for one of the most successful after-school programs) and there were really good traditional studios in Albuquerque teaching from a more serious and exclusive approach (Christy actually received her childhood training from Fishback School of the Dance ˗ one of the pillars of the Southwest dance community). What was missing, at that time, was a studio serving everyone else.

Christy believed there were kids interested in dance who wanted a professional studio experience, but not the pressure typically associated with that environment. On one hand, she saw recreational dancers and school team dancers who wanted more technique and foundation training. On the other hand, there were traditional dancers who were looking for more options to find their place as well as more enjoyment in general. To Christy, there was this wonderful middle-ground overlap between styles, talent, skill, body type, and goals that was sorely under-served.

She was right, and the natural solution was to be the solution.

Build it, and they will come...(hopefully)

In the first part of 2003, Christy (and her husband Brian), began to strategize. If this was going to happen, they would need a name, a basic curriculum, a building, and money. Then, after months of business planning and begging for startup capital from friends and family, Christy got important news from a colleague in the Cheer industry. A cheer gym was closing down operations and their space would soon be available. It was the perfect opportunity in a great location.

After securing a lease, the hard work of converting a cheer gym into a dance studio began. Painting, filling in gymnastics pits, building out a viewing area for spectators, and laying a 2,500 square foot dance floor were just some of the tasks ahead. It took many all-nighters and, again, the amazing help of friends and family (this time with labor not money) to get the studio ready for business. At one point there were a dozen people, on hands and knees, at 1 in the morning, hammering nails into the refurbished subfloor to get it prepared for the Marley dance surface. It was exhausting and a bit stressful, but on June 3, 2003, Dance Dimensions (the original name of the studio) opened its doors for business.

The Dimensions Timeline

  • The 2003-2004 dance year was our first recital year. Recital was in May 2004 at Hope Christian High School Gymnasium.

  • 2003 we started our Allstar Dance program - 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dimension Allstars

  • 2006 remodeled the main studio to have two rooms (versus one big one).

  • 2006 we added our Music program!

  • May 2006 our first recital at Popejoy Hall.

  • 2007 remodeled the upstairs to have a small classroom.

  • June 2007 we changed our name to Dimensions School of Dance & Music and updated the logo.

  • August 2008 we officially added competitive cheer to our programs.

  • 2009 overhauled our allstar dance program. Dimension Dance Allstars (which now boasts over 50 competitive dancers and 6 teams)

  • 2010 we moved the Cheer operations to its own facility. (Fifth Dimension Allstars)

  • June, 3, 2013 we celebrated our 10th year!

  • August 2014 Christy, Bre, Stacey and Juliet became some of the first Booty Barre certified instructors in Albuquerque and our Adult Fitness program is launched!

  • April 2015 we sold the Cheer gym which was purchased again a year later by Cheer Central ˗ if you're interest in Cheer, check them out.

  • 2014-2016 we survived the 2-year Paseo/Jefferson/I-25 reconstruction!

  • July 2016 Christy becomes the first certified POUND instructor in Albuquerque!

  • August 2016 we shut down for 3 weeks to renovate the facilities into the beautiful studio you see today!

  • August 2019, opened second location servicing the Westside, Rio Rancho, Corrales area. (right across from Cottonwood Mall)
  • OUR MISSION

To spread the love of performing arts by providing professional dance instruction to children of all ages and skill levels.

    DIMENSIONS CULTURE

Our culture is a combination of our staff, our dancers, our Directors, our facilities, and our customers. It is the studio environment, a "vibe", and a perception all wrapped into a general attitude and way of “being”. While we don't always get it perfect, we do strive to promote a positive, upbeat and supportive culture. Part of that promotion includes encouraging our customers to be proactively positive versus passively indifferent or actively antagonistic. To help further define our culture, we've broken it down into three main components: Our Vision, Core Principles, and Code of Conduct.

    Our Vision

It is our vision to contribute to our communities by training dancers to have kind hearts, compassionate deeds, humble spirits, eager minds, respected skills, healthy bodies and strong relationships.

    Core Principles

Dimensions has seven core principles. These principles inform our attitude. Our attitude then frames our actions. Our actions define who we are. With that in mind, we encourage all Dimensions family members to adopt the principles while at Dimensions or a Dimensions event (for our Allstars, it is not just encouraged, but expected). The more consistent we are in our shared principles, the stronger and better we are.

We all have many unique dimensions (pun intended) that make up who we are, but we also all share a common creative spark. Whether that spark manifests as instruction, encouragement and support, or as participation, it is there in all of us. So, we rally around that spark as a common bond and commit to the following principles:

  • DISCIPLINE. Purposeful habits that build skills and define our lifestyle. Motivation burns out; discipline endures.

  • RESPONSIBILITY. The confidence that I own my actions and the outcomes of those actions, good or bad.

  • PASSION. Committing all our effort and emotion to accomplish the task at hand.

  • KINDNESS. Treating others in a manner that adds something positive, big or small, to their life.

  • RESPECT. Acknowledging the value of others and others’ property in our interactions with them.

  • GRACE. Allowing for mistakes, never jumping to the worst conclusion, and eager to return to the positive.

  • HUMILITY. Willing to be wrong or to be wronged, and still act in the strength of the other five principles.
  • Conduct

How we conduct ourselves (our behavior) is how we "walk the walk" not just "talk the talk". Dimensions has an official Code of Conduct for all of our family (customers). Please read it through completely and make every attempt to adhere to the guidelines. Here is a summary of some of the top conduct expectations:

  • We never intentionally damage or vandalize Dimensions property.

  • We always treat other students, supporters and guests with respect and kindness.

  • We stop gossip and negative "venting" with kind words and positive counterpoints.

  • We never talk bad about other studios and/or other students

  • We keep our words and actions age appropriate; in other words, PG or less is a safe bet.

  • We clean up after ourselves.
