Training people with horses Dede has been riding since she was five years old. She began her riding career on Arabian Horses with a focus on Saddleseat and Hunter seat.

Growing up she broke many young horses to saddle and galloped racehorses for her mother, Stella Conklin who was a licensed racehorse trainer in NM. Together, Dede and Stella, took retired racehorses and sold them as re-schooled hunter/jumper prospects as well as breaking, training and showing young Arabian horses. When she was thirteen Dede found Schzarad Thunder (aka Sher Khan) a 15.0 hand pureb

[01/12/19]   It's that time of year again! Fuzzy horses in need of clipping. I'm offering my services to Albuquerque and surrounding areas. $80 for a trace clip, $125 for a full body clip with a hot oil treatment on a full clip. I've done dozens of body clips as an FEI groom back east. I'm quick and kind to the horses. PM for more info.

David Ramey, D.V.M.

LOL agreed.

It's always fun to spend some Christmas-time (or anytime) with your dog, maybe sitting in your lap, and enjoying a little attention. And make sure you spend time with your horse(s), too! But horses aren't dogs. A friendly Christmas reminder.

[10/04/15]   Huge shout out to Jessica Thornhill and Jar Jar Binks. They had wonderful entry level dressage tests today at the Chile Roast and to all of our delight and surprise it was good enough for high score of the day!!! I'm so proud of the hard work my riders do to perform at their best. This was only Jessica and Jar Jar's first tests and they they were wonderful.

So proud of you guys! 09/30/2015

[05/24/15]   Don't be alarmed!!! I have changed my name, yes, yes I know, I just can't seem to decide! I think this is final! This was our farm name before I went back east and I think it should stay, or make a comeback. :) 05/03/2015

When It's Time - David W. Ramey, DVM

There's been a lot of speculation, conjecture and really rotten comments about the lady that had her horse put down after a suspensory injury at Rolex. I believe that she did what she thought was best for him. I believe that even more because she isn't one of the rich big time people. A horse like that means more to us little people, even if they are going to sold in furtherance of a career. I have one horse that would not take stall rest. I know he wouldn't, so I know that there are horses that won't. One of the hardest decisions that a horse owner will even have to make is deciding when a horse’s time is over. I want to talk to you about it. 04/08/2015

Blanketing, and other Colorful Considerations - David W. Ramey, DVM

Its been in the single digit negative numbers here within the past few weeks and two of my four horses are blanketed. Both are clipped. Whistler out and out shivers and, well, it just seems mean not to blanket the other one. He's only trace clipped, but still, he had all that hair for a reason. The other two are in their mid twenties. They are all inside, but the barn isn't heated, so mostly it keeps them out of the wind and snow, but no additional warmth. I'm a firm believer that over blanketing seems to make them more dependent on it. Once we started blanketing my old mare she always had to have it, so now I try to make sure they really need it. So, I was walking up to this barn, and I see a client strolling down the aisle, shaking her head, obviously concerned about something. “What’s the matter?” I asked. “I had my horse talk to the psychic,” she said. This is the sort of instance where you can easily blow a doctor:client relationship by… 01/04/2015

The Plea Of The Ruined Horse: Do Better Yesterday I was hacking my 4-year-old gelding, Deep Woods, and I couldn’t stop thinking how wonderful he is. The weather has been awful here in Illinois so all the horses have been stuck inside for the past few days. We’d all been gone at a clinic over the weekend, so the horses that stayed home had… 12/30/2014

Fear of Flying Why do show hunters, equitation riders and horse show pleasure riders so often lope along in that "dead zone" canter? Part of the answer must be that the slower, more sluggish the canter/lope, and the less impulsion that the horse creates, the less "threatening" the gait must feel to those who are a… 12/04/2014

Amateurs Like Us: Lexey Hall Might Need Another GPS

LOL It was a Facebook status update shared and laughed at quite a bit on Dec. 1. Lexey Hall’s tongue-in-cheek declaration of her newly acquired amateur status put a humorous spin on her new U.S. Equestrian Federation designation. She’s no stranger to a Facebook post gone viral—two years ago, a photo of…
