Curve-billed Thrasher singing

It was February 14, 2018, and this Curve-billed Thrasher was looking for a Valentine in the Sandia Foothills Open Space. This bird's signature call is a two-note whistle that's been likened to someone hailing a taxi. When spring is in the air, though, he'll pull out all the stops, breaking into a melodically and rhythmically complex (if repetitive) song that signals his availability as a mate--or his ownership of the territory.
