The Tierra del Sol road race is happening this weekend; April 14, 2018. This event is by far the flattest race of the New Mexicio Road Race Series and is a great opportunity for you sprinters to score some street cred. Because the course isn't super challenging, this is also a great event for beginners. So, if you haven't yet registered please do so and help spread the word. I've included a link to registration below:

Good information on why "race openers" are so important to do on the day before a race.
Flush out your legs!
Course info for all you doing the Crusher in a few weeks.
Alrighty CRUSHERS....as promised, I got out and rode the course along with my cuz and partner-in-grime to suss-out conditions for all of you!
It was a bluebird day in the Tushars and the course is in GREAT shape with very few washboards anywhere at this point in the game.
That said, the reason the washboards are down is due to the fact that UDOT has recently laid down fresh gravel all over the course, including on the Col 'd Crush.
Long story short, expect it to be **VERY** loose on the descents!
My advice....ride those brakes and take it nice and easy going down because the CRUSHER has NEVER been won on the downhill, but you can bet yer ass it's been lost there!
Pro Tip #1: Air-down those tires for maximum grip! A lot of CRUSHER "newbies" run WAAAAAY too much tire pressure and end-up skating their way down the descents in white-knuckled terror.
Pro Tip #2: Ask a rider of your similar weight who has done the event before what PSI they plan on running. You'll likely be surprised by the answer.
Pro tip #3: Pump-up the volume! Larger volume tires can be run at lower pressures, improving handling and comfort.
With the dry, loose conditions we're currently seeing, I'm liking a 40C or larger tire with some good side-knobs for bite in the corners and tread in the center for grip while climbing ....The Panaracer Gravelking SK 40C is perfect IMHO.
More updates as we get closer!
Till then.... Keep calm and #crushon!

This is a common concern for almost every athlete that I coach. This is a great article on how to approach pre-race nutrition. As the author suggests, optimal pre-race nutrition is specific to each athlete and, therefore, it's important to determine what's best before your key event for the season.
