🤩Health Tip of the Week❗️

Sleep 😴 is essential to a healthy lifestyle and crucial for athlete’s preparation & recovery in their sport. Yes, many of us could use more sleep 💤

How do you recover from trainings and competitions? Your answer is probably the traditional recovery: stretching, icing, hydrating, foam rolling, etc. BUT, the best answer should be by getting a full night of sleep! Why? Because if we do not get enough sleep we are prone to decrease performance cognitively
and physically 😱🤯⬇️⬇️

Here’s how lack of sleep can decrease your performance.

▶️Studies show that athletes who get less than 8 hours of sleep each night, increase their injury risk by 1.7X ! Why? If we do not get enough sleep, we shorten the amount of time for our skeletal muscle to fully adapt and repair, which has a direct impact on training adaptations such as speed, endurance, and strength and power.

▶️Sports doesn’t only require a high level of physical attributes, but it also requires a high level of motor learning, decision making, remembering plays and game strategy. Sleep is crucial for memory consolidation and motor learning which ultimately influences performance.

Here are some tips to help improve better sleeping habits😁

1️⃣ Avoid stimulants such as caffeine before going to bed.

2️⃣Avoid using electronics or watching TV in bed.

3️⃣Sleep in a cool 🥶and dark room.

A lot of times overlooked by many athletes and coaches🙄 Throwing weights around is cool and all but most sports require you to get from point A to point B. We train to be athletes🏃💨 not body builders❌

Coach @liz_theathletesplayground_a working with TAPLete Ryan on a simple but effective hurdle sprint drill. Emphasizing Ryan’s knee drive, striking the ground with the ball of his feet, and being efficient as possible with his movement. Many athletes “scoop their feet” when running or sprinting and have to work even harder to get to where they want to. Be Efficient!
