Today is the World Flamenco Day, created in honor of the recognition of this musical genre as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO . This art form is popular all over the world, including the US. 💃

Flamenco is recognized as one of the symbols of Spain since the early 20th century, as demonstrated by Joaquín Sorolla when he chose it as one of the landscapes that was part of the "Vision of Spain" series, made for the The Hispanic Society Museum & Library.
https://www.hispaniccouncil.org/vision-of-spain-el-mayor-encargo-de-sorolla-habita-en-nueva-york/

In the 1920s, some artists like La niña de los Peines began to introduce the genre among the country's musical sales. Then #flamenco gained popularity with the arrival post-war Spanish emigrants.

In the 80s, the group The Gipsy Kings popularized the genre, becoming nominated for several Recording Academy / GRAMMYs. The fame of #flamenco prompted great artists such as Paco de Lucía, Camarón or @ElCigalaOficial to tour the country.

This growth has also led to the emergence of #flamenco musicians developing their careers in the US, such as Carlota Santana of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana or Joaquín Encinas of National Institute of Flamenco.

Recently, the biggest boost to the expansion of flamenco in the US has come from @rosalia, whose songs have reached the top 10 most listened to in the country and won the award for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album at the Grammy Awards and eight prizes at the Latin GRAMMYs.

In short, #flamenco is a symbol of Hispanic culture in the US. If you want more details on the subject, you can find them in this post we have published about it:
