A big thanks to Atlanta Outdoor Club trip leader, Clay Davies, for leading a recent hike from Darnell Creek Trail and the Bartram Trail to the summit of Rabun Bald -- Georgia’s second-highest peak at 4,696 feet. Clay says his crew of 11 hikers covered over 15 miles with more than 3,200 feet of elevation gain. Impressive! He noted, "It was a cool mostly overcast day and everyone enjoyed the long hike." From the streets of Palermo to the ancient valley of Agrigento, six members of the Atlanta Outdoor Club recently completed an unforgettable trek across Sicily along the historic Magna Via Francigena. After arriving in Palermo for sightseeing and a group kickoff dinner, hikers set out on a multi-day journey through the island’s interior ...traversing rolling hills, rural villages, and sweeping elevation gains that pushed the group mile after mile deeper into Sicily’s landscape and history. The route carried the group (led by Ann and Ralph Howard) from Monreale and Santa Cristina Gela to Corleone, then onward through Prizzi, Castronovo di Sicilia, and San Giovanni Gemini. Each day brought new terrain, climbs, and ever-changing views of Sicily. What an adventure! Learn more about our events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

May is Member Month! Today's profile is on Atlanta Outdoor Club members Elizabeth and Jason. Elizabeth says, "I joined the Atlanta Outdoor Club because I was tired of trying to persuade friends and dates to join me for outdoor adventures. On my very first trip with the club in 2008, I met my now-husband. We always joke that we met in a cave (though the truth is, it was actually in the parking lot right before)! We were pretty inseparable from our second trip -- skydiving! We got married in 2010 in Banff. 19+ years later we're happier than ever with a calendar booked FULL of adventures." May is Member Month! Today's profile is on Atlanta Outdoor Club member Glenn Ambrose. He says, "Wow, has it been 14 years since I joined The Atlanta Outdoor Club because I have a lifetime of memories. Backpacking through Gorges State Park, SC, hang gliding around Lookout Mountain, TN, camping, hiking and kayaking at the Swan Cabin in the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness or the many cycling events around GA. are just a few of my fondest memories. One of the best things about the Atlanta Outdoor Club is the diverse events, whether you are a casual hiker, a hardcore backpacker or cycler, there is always something to do or someplace go. My fellow members and trip leaders have inspired me to seek new adventures, expand my comfort level and experience what nature has to offer. I hope to see you cycling on the path, hiking down the trail or floating down the stream." Learn more about the club at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

May is Member Month! Today's profile is on Atlanta Outdoor Club trip leader Todd Muller. He says, "I really enjoy meeting people who have the same passion for the outdoors as I do. I have made many good friends through the club since I joined back in 2009. Before I started playing harmonica with other musicians around the campfire with the club, I had never played with other musicians. Now, jamming and performing with some of the friends I have made through the club is a big part of my life. The Atlanta Outdoor Club has introduced me to many new experiences I never would have had otherwise."

May is Member Month! Today's profile is Jaime Johnston. He's the Director of Technology for the Atlanta Outdoor Club. He says, "I was introduced to the club in January of 2008. Since then I've been exploring all of the different activities and events that the club has to offer. I always wanted to learn to scuba dive and when an event popped up on the calendar I jumped on the opportunity. I'm now a certified open water diver. I've also discovered that I love backpacking and caving. There are still a lot of outdoor activities that I haven't tried yet and I can't wait to experience them all. I'm also excited about serving as the club's webmaster and working to enhance the functionality and improve the user experience of the site." Learn more about the club at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com
