From one of the greatest equestrians to hold the reins, the greatest advice….
“No. 1. Get your tack and equipment just right, and then forget about it and concentrate on the horse.
No. 2. The horse is bigger than you are, and it should carry you. The quieter you sit, the easier this will be for the horse.
No. 3. The horse's engine is in the rear. Thus, you must ride your horse from behind, and not focus on the forehand simply because you can see it.
No. 4. It takes two to pull. Don't pull. Push.
No. 5. For your horse to be keen but submissive, it must be calm, straight and forward.
No. 6. When the horse isn`t straight, the hollow side is the difficult side.
No. 7. The inside rein controls the bending, the outside rein controls the speed.
No. 8. Never rest your hands on the horse's mouth. You make a contract with it: "You carry your head and I'll carry my hands."
No. 10. Once you've used an aid, put it back.
No. 11. You can exaggerate every virtue into a defect.
No. 12. Always carry a stick, then you will seldom need it.
No. 13. If you`ve given something a fair trial, and it still doesn't work, try something else—even the opposite.
No. 14. Know when to start and when to stop. Know when to resist and when to reward.
No. 15. If you're going to have a fight, you pick the time and place.
No. 16. What you can't accomplish in an hour should usually be put off until tomorrow.
No. 17. You can think your way out of many problems faster than you can ride your way out of them.
No. 18. When the horse jumps, you go with it, not the other way around.
No. 19. Don`t let over-jumping or dull routine erode the horse's desire to jump cleanly. It's hard to jump clear rounds if the horse isn't trying.
No. 20. Never give up until the rail hits the ground.
No. 21. Young horses are like children—give them a lot of love, but don't let them get away with anything.
No. 22. In practice, do things as perfectly as you can; in competition, do what you have to do.
No. 23. Never fight the oats.
No. 24. The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Merry Christmas to all! May you be snuggled up and warm with your loved ones!

We have approx 20 barn cats that need new homes. The owners passed away, and now the children are getting closer to selling. These cats are all spayed and neutered and will get rabies vacccine updates before going to their new homes. We'd like to place 2-3 at a time, so they can keep each other company and have a better chance of staying in their new location. We can help you with all the rehoming protocol. Who Said Old is a Bad Thing? - The Plaid Horse Magazine BY JACKY FRIEDMAN Why don’t more people seek out an older horse for the inexperienced rider? Learning to ride is a challenge, so working with a young horse often just makes it harder. It’s a very sad day here at EverReady Farm. The king, EverReady, passed peacefully last night in his beautiful Montana retirement home. Our heartfelt thanks to Shana and here daughter Abree for loving and caring for the old man as if he were their own. For one more kid to love.
When Ready was just a baby, he was deemed not kid friendly. He nailed the vet at castration time and the wicked left hind cowl kick surprised many. Including myself. He was 3 when I met him and I broke and trained him so my daughter could ride his elder full brother Boomerang. Ready proved to be a profoundly perfect kids pony. By the time he was 4, my 12-year-old daughter was riding him and I was training the older more complicated pony.
He wasn’t the fanciest but he was the kindest and most comfortable caretaker of young riders. Lovely mover and a happy jumper. Won countless Pleasure Championships. short Stirrup Champio ships. Etc. he redeemed many fearful Childrens love of horses.
He was my daughters best friend. When life and marriage moved her across country, Ready went with so family would be close by always.
He loved the Wild West. After all he was a wild pony of the Moors. EverReady. Ever loved.
What fun medal trip! Well done Aubrey and Bunny! Video to come

Good luck in the over fences tomorrow!!

If Taylor’s Dad was a talker, this is what he would say about showing steers with his little girl. Shane Adams & Taylor Adams. Yes, the banners are always the goal, but the life ❤️ lessons learned along the way are the why…
One of my friends asked, "Why do you pay so much money for your kids to show lambs/cattle?" Well I have a confession to make, I don't pay for my kids to show lambs and cattle.
So, if I am not paying for them to show, what am I paying for?
- I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to quit but don't.
- I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are "too tired" to go the barn but go anyway.
- I pay for my kids to learn to be disciplined.
- I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their body.
- I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good team mates.
- I pay for my kids to learn to deal with disappointment, when they don't win what they'd hoped for, but still have to work hard in the grading.
- I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals.
- I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours and hours of hard work and practice to create a champion, and that success does not happen overnight.
- I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make life-long friendships.
- I pay so that my kids can be in the ring instead of in front of a screen...
...I could go on but, to be short, I don't pay for show lambs/cattle I pay for the opportunities that showing lambs provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far, there is no greater investment out there.

This is why I do what I do. A young rider with a dream and a work ethic. From first canter to pony finals, no short cuts, no seasoned 6-figure pony and all culminating in a stellar performance on a big stage. These two love one another and it shows. Proud.
