Alexander City Parks and Recreation

The mission of the Alexander City, AL Parks and Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life for our citizens, their families, and our visitors.

We’d like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone that came out to show support to all of our local and out of town linemen. They all came into the gym with big smiles on their faces.

City of Alexander City, Alabama - City Government

Good Morning!

We currently have around 25 restorable homes without power. We expect to have all undamaged homes’ power restored by noon. There are 75-100 customers with damage that cannot be restored until the homeowner makes repairs. We will be reconnecting these customers today and throughout the weekend as repairs are made.

The light department will have crews in the following areas today.
• Carlisle Rd Area
• Parks Ave Area
• Parrish Hill Area
• Comer St Area
• J, N and I St Area
• Maple St

We will have crews working throughout the weekend reconnecting damaged services and doing clean-ups.

Today is the day to show these linemen some small town kindness and let them know how much we appreciate all they’ve done to get our city’s power back on.

Remember to line the street beginning at the Elkahatchee entrance down to the pavilion and pond area. The linemen eat at 12:00, so we are asking everyone to be parked by 11:30.

Make sure you bring signs, turn on your flashers, wave, and honk your horns as the power trucks arrive.

City of Alexander City, Alabama - City Government

The Light Department and other electrical crews are continuing to make process with restoring power in our community. They have minimized the amount of customers without power to 250. Thank you for your patience and support during this time.

The light department will have crews working in the following areas today.

• Sleepy Hollow Area- Houston St
• Maynard Hill Area – Maynard St to Hwy 22 Mask Ave
• Booker St Area- Booker St, Lincoln Heights, R & Carlisle St
• Warren Hill Area
• Parrish Hill Area

To report power outages, please contact the Light Department at (256) 409-2080.

Don’t forget to come out tomorrow at 11:30 and line Sportplex Blvd to show appreciation to all of the lineman that have been working tirelessly to restore our city’s power.

The barricades at the entrance will be removed so you can enter the park easily. We ask that you park on the road from the pond area up to Elkahatchee Rd.

Bring signs, clap for them, honk your horns, put on your flashers, scream thank you, but please stay in your cars due to social distancing protocol.

Good Morning Everyone,

STORM DEBRIS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION (FOR DEBRIS FROM INSIDE CITY LIMITS):

*CLEAN BRUSH ONLY (trees, limbs, stumps) can be placed on the lot behind the Public Works office located at 824 Railey Road during our current operating hours 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Any clean brush (no building debris or trash commingled) coming from inside the city limits may be placed here by residents, businesses, or contractors working on their behalf.

*Bagged smaller debris (leaves, small limbs, etc.), building debris (excluding treated lumber) can be taken to the city's inert landfill located at 1507 North Central Ave.

*Brush can be placed curbside for pickup if unable to haul off. We will attempt to pick up all debris that we can safely do so without damaging the brush trucks.

***Please be aware that we are not currently operating regularly scheduled brush routes, because we are still working to clear roadways and supporting the Light Department. We currently have no way of guaranteeing when curbside brush will be picked up, and delays in regular routes are anticipated for quite some time due to the large amount of debris in our area. Your patience and understanding is very much appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at (256) 409-2020, or email [email protected] or [email protected].

Thanks!

City of Alexander City, Alabama - City Government

Good evening again everyone.
As of tonight, I can tell you that, unfortunately, the damage to our electric power distribution system was greater than we had anticipated. With the help of our friends from Dothan, Sylacauga, Tuskegee, and Bill’s Electric, our Utilities and Public Works, Sportplex, and other departments made outstanding progress under extremely difficult circumstances. We are now estimating approximately 1,000 to 1,200 City power customers remain without service. I am very pleased to let you know that crews from Opelika will arrive tomorrow along with all those who were here today. This increase in manpower and equipment should aid us in making even more progress. The out of town crews have committed to stay with us until the job is done, and we intend to work as hard as possible until that goal is reached. Your continued patience is appreciated.

CAUTION!!! The City of Alexander City is not working with any private businesses at this time for private property cleanup and/or housing construction/repair. If you are approached by someone claiming to be working with the city, please call (256) 329-6700 before allowing them to assist. Anyone or any businesses who are receiving payment for services in the City Limits and police jurisdiction should have a business license before starting services. This includes insurance adjusters, debris cleanup businesses, inspectors, contractors, and anyone receiving payment for services.

Alexander City Public Works Department

Good Morning. Please be aware of the following:

**Please continue to limit travel to only when necessary, as this will allow employees to safely and efficiently do their jobs. Many areas in Alexander City are still considered hazardous with trees in the road, trees jutting out into the road, edge of pavement issues, etc. If you must travel, please use extreme caution when doing so.

**A traffic light that is not working should be treated as a 4-way stop.

**Any and all help from citizens has been very much appreciated. However, if you choose to do so, please keep in mind that we do not allow our employees to use a chainsaw on any tree with a power line in it until it has been cleared by the City's Light Department or Alabama Power first. We would ask that you please do the same for safety purposes.

**All Public Works resources are currently being used in support of clearing roadways and assisting the Light Department with power restoration. Therefore, regular brush routes and general services will be delayed.

Thank you for you continued patience and understanding as city crews work diligently on clean-up and power restoration.

City of Alexander City, Alabama - City Government

Good evening all. The City of Alexander City was extremely fortunate to come through today’s storm events with a very limited number of minor injuries. We were; however, less fortunate with the amount of damage to our electric power transmission lines. Our Light Department and Public Works crews have worked tirelessly today and into the night to remove trees and restore power to as many residents as possible. I have reached out to our friends from Bills Electric, Sylacauga, Opelika, Tuskegee, and Dothan and they will have power crews here to assist beginning tomorrow. Please help keep our local and out of town crews safe and working as efficiently as possible by staying at home and off of the roads as much as possible until we have all power restored. I, and my staff, will be working day and night to get these problems resolved as soon as possible. Your patience is appreciated.

Currently we do not have a timeline on the return of power or the clearing of downed trees.
City crews, Rescue Squad and others are clearing roads at this time.

Please limit your travel to emergency situations only, chances are that you will encounter roads that are not passable.

Alexander City Public Works Department

In an attempt to protect and maintain the health of our employees and our community, effective immediately until April 15th, the Alexander City Public Works Department will temporarily be operating on a split-shift schedule. The purpose of this is to minimize the number of employees in vehicles together and circulating through work areas at the same time. During this time, our goal will be to continue to provide essential services as close to normal as possible. However, please bear with us and keep in mind that response times to non-essential requests may be longer than usual. It is likely that brush routes will also be slightly delayed, but please continue placing your brush curbside prior to your normally scheduled pick-up day to avoid missed pick-up. We appreciate your patience as we all work through this difficult time together. Please contact our office at (256) 409-2020 if you have any questions or concerns.

What to do on a quarantined, beautiful☀️ day..?

We now have a designated fish🐟 and turtle🐢 feeding area at the park. There are 12 designated areas with approximately 6.5 ft between each space to adhere to the social distancing protocol. Each feeding area is marked with a number and has lines to mark off each space.

Grab some stale bread you probably already have laying around and come feed the fish and turtles.

We do not currently have a curfew. Please follow this page and the City of Alexander City for all updates regarding information for our area.

The Alex City Disc Golf Course is still open to the public. The course offers a beautiful nature walk, physical activity, and tons of family fun. Now would be the perfect time to try a new sport as a family that allows you to get out of the house and enjoy this beautiful weather.
