Let's talk muscle pain.

Our nerves control every voluntary movement our muscles make. In turn our muscles move every joint in our body, thus our nervous system is imperative for proper joint function.

Now, say you have a muscular issue which is causing pain and some type of dysfunction. Wouldn't it be expected to not only address the muscle, but also the joint and nerves associated with it? If the muscle has damage, the joint associated with it will have dysfunction, and most likely the nerve which innervates that muscle will also be dysfunctional.

This is where we thrive at Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness. We address the muscles, the joints and the nerves in order to get you back to moving without pain and dysfunction.

Pain prevents people from staying active.

In 2017, the American College of Physicians recommended spinal manipulation as the first-line defense against low back pain.

[04/17/20]   Further clarification regarding massage services.

MN Governor Tim Walz put into place Executive Order 20-04 and 20-08 which prohibits massage therapists from working at this time.

Both the ABMP & the AMT, the leading massage therapy associations in the US, have ordered their massage therapists to refrain from practicing at this time. The consequence is losing liability insurance and membership.

The state of Minnesota does not require massage therapists to produce proof of any formal education to practice massage, an issue for another day. For this reason there may still be massage services in operation but please know that this means: 1. They are breaking the executive order putting you and others at risk, 2. They are most likely not formally trained in massage, and 3. They are not covered by any liability insurance.

Tina misses you too, we promise. We are blessed with one of the best at Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness and she is worth the wait. ❤️

Core Stabilization

Dr. Landon highlights three exercises to stabilize your core.

Happy National Doctors' Day to this guy!

With everything going on we thought we'd keep it light. :)

Shoulder & Hip Stability

Dr. Landon demonstrates a couple exercises that help to stabilize your shoulder and hip joints.

These are Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) exercises. DNS uses the approach in which every purposeful movement is reinforced by the coordinated activity of segmental postural stability. It is based on the scientific principles of Developmental Movement. The goal is to achieve optimal muscle coordination by exercising in developmental positions.

[03/16/20]   Hello Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness Family,

As for now, we are open for our regular hours.

M&W: 1:00 pm- 5:30 pm
T&TH: 8:00 am- 12:20 pm + 2:30 pm- 5:30 pm
F: 8:00 am- 2:00 pm

As scary as this situation may be, the best thing we can do is take great care of our immune systems. If you have any questions regarding healthy food choices, supplement options or additional tips please let us know!

After each patient we are removing the paper completely and disinfecting the headrest and components, the table, and the arm rests. Door handles, chairs, and our payment system are also being disinfected after each patient.

Furthermore, we will be staggering appointment times to limit the number of individuals in our office and also to provide time for the appropriate cleaning measures.

We ask that you also do your part to contribute. We have hand sanitizer available upon entering and a wash station available as well. If you are feeling unwell or have been in direct contact with an individual known to be unwell we ask that you call to reschedule your appointment.

Be sure to eat healthy foods, keep moving, manage your stress levels, get plenty of rest, and wash your hands!

As the events regarding COVID-19 evolve, we will continue to monitor the CDC, WHO, and Minnesota Department of Health.

Thank you and stay well.

[03/13/20]   Lets take a quick minute to talk about the elephant in society right now, COVID-19. We are in a scary time, simply because of the unknown. Things that were seen as pillars have by and large been suspended or all out cancelled. This is an unprecedented moment in my generations time, we will all remember how COVID-19 affected us.

Our clinic is following the news sources, following World Health Organization and CDC recommendations. By and large nothing has changed for us at the clinic. We continue to wash our hands or use sanitizer between each patient, we sanitize the table and other surfaces regularly, we will remain cognizant of any changes and follow them accordingly.

As for our patients, please stay home if you are feeling ill AT ALL. Whether you think you have contracted COVID-19 or not, if you have a cough, fever, shortness of breathe, etc...STAY HOME. This isn't a recommendation to protect us, this is a recommendation to protect the people in society who are at the greatest risk. We all have family and friends who fall within the highest risk categories.

As the Blizzard team physician, Dr. Landon will be traveling with the Alexandria Blizzard hockey team to their first round playoff game Friday.

To accommodate for this travel, our hours for chiropractic services only will be 7:00 am- 12:30 pm.

Go Blizzard!

Yale Study, Chiropractic Care Is Today Contributing Toward A 50 Percent Reduction In Opioid Prescriptions Issued In The United States

According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, every day 130 people die in the United States from drug abuse. 💔

In addition, "The CDC estimates that the total "economic burden" of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement." You can check that info out here. ---->

These are hard stats to swallow.

Thankfully light is starting to shed on the benefits of alternative options and we're proud to be part of that.

"Recent news reports have revealed that, based on research from the Yale School of Medicine, patients who have visited a chiropractor for musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions are currently 49 percent less likely to be issued and to receive an opioid prescription," explains Dr. Zack, "when compared to their counterparts who sought help from other healthcare providers." According to a recent study carried out by the Yale School of Medicine at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, chiropractic care is today contributing toward an almost 50 percent r

Infants need to move and learn how to stabilize their bodies by themselves. Our movement patterns begin during infancy.

I want to touch on two devices that are still very commonly used, but can hinder functional development by creating a false sense of stability.

The first one is a device that allows your infant to sit up. These are very common because they allow you to place your infant (once old enough to hold their head up) in a location while you are with them, allowing you to keep your arms free with baby near by. They do make life easier for us parents, however, they decrease the child's development by eliminating the need for them to use that body part or system for support.

The second device is any assisted walking devices that hold the baby up from their bottom. Although they may allow baby to mimic the movements, they are not using any of the musculature that helps them gain stability and strength needed to perform these movements on their own.

Now, this isn't to say that these devices can never be used but limiting the time spent in them is important.

If you have any questions on this topic or others please feel free to reach out for clarification or suggestions. Parenting littles is tough enough, we hope to be a positive resource for you. :)

Why working out to "failure" may fail you.

Today the notion of proper form while lifting is at the forefront of my mind as I see patients of every age who can decrease their ailments simply by focusing on proper mechanics while they are lifting objects.

I have patients almost everyday who say something along the lines of “I was working out and while doing _______ felt some pain but decided to push through it.” Or, “Today we had to do X amount of handstand push-ups, cleans, snatches, squats until exhaustion and now my ______ hurts.” Today the notion of proper form while lifting is at the forefront of my mind as I see patients of every age who can decrease their ailments simply by focusing o
