People with ADHD and autism don’t just get tired.
Our nervous systems don’t register exhaustion as rest.
They register it as pressure, urgency, and failure.
Burnout doesn’t arrive quietly.
It feels like your body shutting down while your mind keeps pushing.
Rest can feel unsafe.
Stillness can trigger guilt.
Doing nothing can feel like falling behind.
So you keep going.
Even when simple tasks feel impossibly heavy.
This isn’t laziness.
It isn’t a lack of motivation.
It’s a nervous system that learned survival through effort and hypervigilance.
When burnout hits, capacity shrinks.
Patience thins.
Everything feels like too much.
That doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means your system has been in overdrive for too long.
You’re not failing at life.
You’re responding exactly how a nervous system does when it needs safety and rest.

Some moments feel heavier than they should, and it’s easy to forget who you are inside the weight of them. But this feeling is not the full story. You’ve survived every hard day so far, and there is so much strength in that. You are more than this moment, and you will rise beyond it.
