Amherst College Baseball

Amherst College features the oldest collegiate baseball program in the world and the longest continuous sports team in the country. During our 158 year history, our players and coaches have been credited for formalizing many rules of the game including the “called” strike. We’ve also dramatically influenced the way baseball is played by inventing the curveball and having a great influence on the modern pitching motion. After playing the first intercollegiate baseball game* against Williams College, Amherst has developed one of the most successful Division III baseball programs in the country.
