Happy Memorial Day from ARG ☀️ Just a reminder that we’re closed today, Monday, May 26th, in observance of the holiday.

No matter what level you’re climbing at, understanding different foot positions can seriously improve your movement, balance, and efficiency!
A toe hook uses the top of your toes and forefoot to pull against a hold. Instead of letting your body swing away from the wall, toe hooks help keep your hips in close and create tension through your core.
Heel hooks are an active move: engage your hamstrings and glutes to pull your body toward the wall and drive your movement upwards.
Smearing is all about trusting friction. Press your rubber into the wall (not just down) to create oppositional force between your feet and your hips.
Bat hangs use double toe hooks to let climbers reposition on steep terrain without relying on their hands. They’re a great example of how strong foot engagement and core control can completely change your movement options.
Looking to unlock toe jams? Insert your toe sideways into a crack, then rotate your knee inward to cam the shoe in place!

Congratulations to the ARG Climbing Team athletes who qualified for USA Climbing Divisional Championship events this season! We’re incredibly proud of the hard work, consistency, and commitment this team has shown throughout the year.
A special congratulations to Tristin and Roman, who qualified for the 2026 USA Climbing Youth National Championships in Salt Lake City at the USAC Training Center. We can’t wait to cheer them on as they represent Alaska Rock Gym on the national stage!

Frigid Flash 2026 is officially in the books and wow, we had a blast. We are so grateful to all our volunteers who made it possible. From keeping a safe belay to helping our youth climbers stay calm under pressure, you were all incredible.
Another BIG thank you to Caffee D’Arte for donating cold brew and Lotus beverages during the adult comp. You kept the energy high and the smiles going all day.
