High School Football Program
Operating as usual
Good Afternoon Everyone,
We’ve had a run of great things happening lately. However, now a member of our football family needs our help. Hunter Dely, class of 2018, was walking along the road in April when he was struck by a car doing 80. He miraculously survived, but had extensive injuries that already required multiple surgeries. He will also require future surgeries and long-term rehabilitation which the costs of care will be astronomical.
One thing I loved immediately when I got to East is how we embrace everyone. Once part of our family, always part of our family. I’ve added a link to Hunter’s gofundme page below. If you can assist with anything, Hunter and his family would greatly appreciate it. Please share the post and/or gofundme page as much as possible. We’re all in this fight together. If you have questions please let me know. Thank you for your help.

Good Morning Everyone, this has a lot so please read to the end where there’s more info.
First, We all need to send a huge thank you again to Rep. Ivy Spohnholz and Sen. Bill Wielechowski for making a special trip up just to present our team with a legislative citation for winning the 2021 AK Football State Championship. It was great to see our players receive that recognition. Our legislators have always been the absolute best to us. We always appreciate their time especially in the middle of the legislative session. It meant a lot to our program and school.
Next, a huge congratulations to Matthew Theriault who surprised everyone as we finished the citation ceremony, when a table was brought out so he could officially sign his letter of intent to play college football for Lewis-Clark State. The 2021 AK Lineman of the Year wanted to do this with his family and all his teammates there. We’re all really excited for him.
Not done yet. Another congratulations to Kyler Johnson, who was surprised when in the middle of a pep assembly yesterday morning his parents showed up. We all got to be there when they unfurled his banner and was presented the trophy for being named the 2021 AK Football Gatorade Player of the Year. Great year and award well earned. Congrats and thank you to the whole Johnson Family.
It’s been a busy week for our football program. This team getting some final recognition for the incredible season they had in 2021 is awesome. We couldn’t be happier for them all to get honored. We always say, and firmly believe, all of these recognitions and awards are team awards. This family’s strength has always been in their tight bond and how they fight for one another. We all reach the heights and successes we have because of that. Love you guys.
Looking forward, we have our final Out-of-season practice today 1-3:45 pm on the turf. Our workouts will continue the next couple of weeks until we take a short break so our players can get the academic school year wrapped up. Then we’ll begin the full Summer Phase of our off-season training program on May 20/21 at our first 2-day Camp. Calendars with daily schedules will be posted soon so you can plan your whole summer. Becoming Champions is happening now and during the summer with the work and dedication you have to improving. We just win the game and earn the ring in October. Thank you again to Ivy and Bill. Congrats to all of our players, and I’ll see the rest of you at the camp today. Go Tbirds!
Good morning everyone, just a reminder of the citation presentation from our state legislators to our 2021 AK Football State Champs tonight. Doors open at 5:50 pm at the lower gym so we can begin at 6 pm. See you there. Go Tbirds!
Happy Monday Everyone! It’s time for our team to get some recognition again for being champs. Our state legislators are making a special trip up this Friday to do the formal recognition by the state and certificate presentation to the players who were part of the 2021 state championship team. This includes all players who were on the official ASAA playoff roster and were on our sidelines during playoff games. This presentation usually occurs in the fall, but then most of the seniors miss out. We really wanted everyone to have a chance to be there, so they were nice enough to rearrange their schedules to fly up even though they’re still in legislative session in Juneau. We will in the lower gym starting at 6 pm (doors open at 5:45 pm) this Friday April 22nd. The whole thing shouldn’t take longer than 45 min or so once we get started. Family, friends are invited to be there. Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday. Go Tbirds!
Happy Friday Everyone, quick reminder that we have our 2nd to last out-of-season practice tomorrow (4/2) from 12-2:45 pm. We were hoping to possibly be on the turf, but the word as of now is we will still have to be inside. Please bring shoes you can wear in the gym, but also bring cleats in case we get a last minute okay to switch to the turf. Also, bring an extra layer or so and bring a water bottle in case we end up outside. See you tomorrow. Go Tbirds!
Good Evening Everyone, Baron Rings provided some solid instructions to get balance paid. Please follow the steps below:
1. Visit the locker room link (same as before): https://store.baronrings.com/collections/east-anchorage-football-2021
2. Select the payment option that says "BALANCE" ($83.50USD).
3. Please fill in the order number given from the first payment (It will look something like "")
4. When it asks for a name, please fill in the name given for the ring (ex. If you ordered a ring for "Jake", please put Jake in this space).
Thank you for getting this done as quickly as possible so the order can be finalized. Go Tbirds!
East Anchorage Football 2021 Note: If a $5 (or more) box isn't purchased the ring will come in a standard small black box.
Hello Everyone, It's finally getting close to that time. Baron Rings has states they are close to completing production on our large ring order. If you chose the down payment option when ordering your ring, you will now need to pay the balance (about 50% of the cost) as soon as possible. Baron won't ship the rings until all rings orders are completed and paid in full. The quickest way to do a payoff on the down is call: 1-866-944-4089. I believe you can also email ([email protected]) with your order number or respond to the order confirmation email you would have received with your down payment and order. Baron will update me as payments are finalized. Please try to get this all done by next week. Once I have a better idea on a ship date, and give you an idea of a date we're going to try to put something together to present them to the coaches and players. It's almost Ring Season...again! Go Tbirds!
I was texting late last night with some of our football players who just suffered a heartbreaking loss in the basketball state championship game. Even through text I could feel their hurt. Like any parent I wanted to try to minimize that pain. However, dealing with these experiences (good and bad) are what help us grow. I was extremely impressed with their perspective on things and the words they said. Two talented teams played last night, worked hard, but unfortunately only one can win. That doesn’t mean the other failed. The historic journey this group of East players has gone through the last 3 years is unbelievable. Their epic run, involving 2 sports, may not be matched again. I told them that I just feel blessed to have been part of that story. That all of us that got to witness and experience their successes were the lucky ones. I can honestly say I’m so incredibly proud of you all. Each of you accomplished things on the field and the court that many of us as kids only get to dream about doing. I ask family, teammates, and friends of these Tbirds to please make sure to voice your appreciation to each of these players. They could use it, and deserve it, now more than ever. To my players thank you all again for your effort, and congratulations on just an epic, record setting run. I love each of you. Go Tbirds.
Please come out and show your support tonight for our basketball team trying to top off their historic winning streak by repeating as Alaska State Champions. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Alaska Airlines Center. Time to earn the right to be called Champions. Go Tbirds!
Hello Everyone, just a reminder we have our 3rd out-of-season practice tomorrow (Saturday, March 19th) from 12 to 2:45 pm. Per ASD policy masks are optional. Appropriate footwear and grade checks are still required. Meet at the lower gym entrance at 11:45 am for grade check. See you tomorrow. Go Tbirds!
Good afternoon everyone. We were finally able to get a couple workouts in this week. We have our 2nd Off-Season practice tomorrow (Saturday 2/26) from 12 to 2:40 pm. More time to get skills work in and learn. At this point masks are still required to enter the school. Please have players there 10 min early since grade checks or progress reports will continue to be the ticket in. We want to stay proactive to make sure no one falls behind. Please spread the word so we get as many players there as possible. Have a good weekend. Go Tbirds!
Good Morning. Well, new week same bad weather. Due to school being cancelled again, there is no workout tonight. Hopefully we’ll start back up tomorrow unless school or after school activities are cancelled again. Please be careful out there . Go Tbirds!
We decided to keep the workouts shut down the rest of the week given the mess out there and potential for freezing. We’ll start back Tuesday next week as normal. Thanks for adjusting to the crazy week and continue to be safe on the roads. Go Tbirds!
Good Morning. Just confirming that due to school being cancelled, there is no strength training again tonight. We’ll try once more tomorrow unless school or after school activities are cancelled again. Please be careful out there . Go Tbirds!
Good Afternoon Everyone. ASD has sent out notice that all after school activities are canceled. That includes our workouts as well. We will pick back up tomorrow assuming weather allows. Please be safe out there. Go Tbirds!
We’ve had very good numbers for our first week of workouts. Given past trends we expect those should go up even more. This is a great kick start to our off-season program.
In addition to workouts beginning, we have our first out-of-season skills practice tomorrow (Saturday, January 29th) from 1-3:30 pm. Please be at the main gym no later than 12:45 to sign-in. The ticket to fully participate is a waiver signed by parent/guardian (please contact the booster club if one is needed), proper footwear/clothing, water bottle (we cannot share at all), a mask, and a grade check or progress report. We were happy to find out these sessions were approved again this off-season. Please take advantage of skills being taught, and also the ability of coaches to direct players for help academically very early in the semester if necessary. This assisted us catch potential grade issues and really helped our players staying eligible.
We’re looking forward to keeping the momentum we’re already seeing. Go Tbirds!
Hello Everyone, it’s been a really long break since the State Championship and for the holidays. Time to get back at it! Our quest for the East 3-peat begins tomorrow, January 25th at 5 pm. From now until the week of graduation, the strength and conditioning program will be every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5-7 pm in the weight room above the pool entrance. Make sure to have proper workout gear, water and masks. You won’t be let in without it. As the players were told at our meeting, the success of the program has been unbelievable. However, you have to earn the right to win a championship. 270 days until the 2022 Alaska State Championship Game. Let’s get to work an earn our opportunity to be back there again. See you tomorrow. Go Tbirds!
Hello All,
Championship ring purchase info had been emailed out and posted on Hudl multiple times the past week plus. However, we’ve heard from some that they didn’t receive the info, so we’re posting to make sure it’s seen on as many sites/platforms as possible. The rings may be the nicest we’ve gotten, and have gotten the best price I’ve seen. Follow the link below to make all orders, but please pay attention to some details on the site and read all the details below.
1. Ring orders are only for players that were on the final playoff roster and All East Football Coaches. Pendants can be ordered by family, etc.
2. If you only want to put a 50% deposit ($84) down then the rest before shipping in about 2 months, you have to click the 2nd ring. If you want to pay the whole amount in full, you click the 1st.
3. A standard box does come with the rings. If you want a little nicer wooden box, then you add one of those pictured.
4. Due to the length of time of production and shipping, we are wrapping orders by December 19th at 5pm. If we do not have at least 41 orders placed at that time, the price may increase. At this time we are not quite there with time running out, so please don’t delay.
Link to order: https://store.baronrings.com/collections/east-anchorage-football-2021
Congratulations! you earned these. Go Tbirds!
East Anchorage Football 2021 Note: If a $5 (or more) box isn't purchased the ring will come in a standard small black box.
Huge Congratulations to Kyler Johnson who was just named the Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year!
Please remember to RSVP to the booster club by tonight on FB, email, the website, etc if you’re going to the banquet tomorrow (12/3) at 5:30. Due to ASD mitigation policies we’re limited to a maximum number of people. We’re close to that number now. Unfortunately, if you just walk in without confirming you’re going to be there, you may not get in. Please remember your mask as they are required inside when we are not eating. See you tomorrow to celebrate the incredible season the whole program had. Go Tbirds!
Hello Everyone, wanted to pass on the information for the banquet from the Booster Club. We're on for a week from Friday, 12/3. All 3 levels are invited as usual. Best part is we can have it inside again! ASD is putting a limit on the number of people we can have so boosters will have to have RSVP's. Please either email, go to the website, or go to their FB page as soon as you can. We're hoping we don't have to limit the number of guests per family. However, the number of RSVP's will determine that. Boosters will have to have a total no later than next Wednesday, 12/1 so that there will be time if any changes need to be made. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again next week. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Go Tbirds!

A State Championship, best season record our staff has had in 11 seasons, a crazy amount of All Conference and All State selections, Shrine Game invites who almost swept POY honors for the game, Max Preps POY, and an incredible football family of players and assistant coaches I can’t compliment enough. I’m not sure there’s a luckier head coach than I am. Thank you for allowing me to be at East and trusting me to coach your kids. It’s a blessing and honor. I’m going to enjoy this season for now. Then let’s get ready to run it back for the Repeat, or is the 3peat… We know the truth. See you all at the banquet (details coming soon). Go Tbirds!
Congratulations Kyler johnson named today the 2021 Alaska Max Preps Player of the Year!
Man, waking up knowing a year’s worth of planning and hard work paid off never gets old. Seeing the joy on all those kids’ faces as they run around the field and hug their football brothers after the clock strikes 0:00 is what it’s all about. Winning Championships, while we appear to be on a bit of a roll lately, is extremely difficult and always require a splash of luck. Sometimes a hell of a lot more than a splash required (see West semifinal game). The hard work, pushing through physical and emotional adversity, long hours, etc is how these things are earned by the players and the coaches. This is why we do this though. The challenges an off season and full season present can be almost overwhelming at times. Getting the opportunity to see these young people grow as they overcome those challenges is inspiring. My staff and I feel so blessed we get to be part of it. This group put together their best game at the best time. They have earned the right to add the Legacy they created for themselves to East High history. That’s something they get to carry with them the rest of their lives. Thank you to all the parents and fans. Your support is more important than you may know. We are the 2021 Alaska State Champions! Go Tbirds!
