Congratulations Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School Thunderbirds for their victory under the Friday night lights at Service High School against the Juneau Huskies! 👏🏈

Football is a team sport, and being the ASAA Division I state champion reflects the hard work and dedication needed from players, coachers, families, school staff, and volunteers. Way to go Coach Jeff Trotter, East High Football players, and the entire BDEAHS family!
We're so happy for East High Football's 2021 State Championship win this past weekend! We're SO happy to be a small part of this amazing team's football year and grateful to be able to support our community! 🎉🤩

There’s no better place in the world to play a state championship football game than Alaska.

And as the Juneau Huskies and the Bettye Davis East High Thunderbirds play for the top spot, City and Borough of Juneau Mayor Beth Weldon and I thought it would be fun to put some Juneau seafood/Anchorage food on the line for some bragging rights.

East Anchorage High School T-Birds I am rooting for you to bring the championship home for Anchorage!

High School Football Program

Operating as usual

Good afternoon everyone. Wanted to make sure everyone knew that a C game at Chugiak was added for this Thursday 9/29 at 6 pm. Please head out there to support them during their final game of the 2022 season. Go Tbirds!

Late night thoughts after opening weekend. Awesome wins by C and Varsity and a tough, close loss by JV. This week will be spent cleaning up a lot of things all 3 coaching staffs saw that need to be improved up. We’ll keep making progress and work our butts off. A very good Colony program is next at their place. This will definitely be challenging. We’ll need our fans to make the drive and take over like always so it feels like home.

C: Thursday (8/18): 7 pm
JV: Friday (8/19): 4 pm
V: Friday (8/19): 7 pm

Looking forward to the challenge this weekend, and taking another step toward earning the right to a championship. See you out at Colony. Go Tbirds!

Good Evening Everyone,

The 1st 10 days of practice seemed to go by really quickly. Saturday at East was fun. All levels had a short practice and a light intra-squad competition. Then a lot of family and friends showed for the incredible bbq. Thank you again to the Booster Club, and parents who helped and donated food.

We now move into the real deal with games beginning this weekend. Things will ramp up significantly. Please note we were lucky and there is a schedule change:

C Team now has their own game.
Saturday (8/13) v West C 10 am @ East. Early game but super lucky it worked out. Please come out to support them. This does mean C Team will have a normal practice on Thursday, and a pre-game (shorter) practice on Friday. They will confirm times, etc tomorrow.

JV and Varsity remains unchanged:
Friday (8/12) at 4 pm and 7 pm respectively v Service at East. Practice schedules are unchanged.

Time to start to earn the right to defend our Championships. See you Friday, and Saturday. Go Tbirds!

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm hoping this copy of the calendar is much clearer. It's the best we can do on FB. If you need something better please contact the booster club who can add you to the email list so you will get the newsletters, that will include all the same information (and more) as you can get here. Thank you and go Tbirds!

Good Evening Everyone,

We've hit the end of Week 1 and the end of July. Here comes Week 2, the beginning of August and the start of games. That being said the August Calendar is below showing all tentative practice and game times. In this era of Covid, etc please remember that all the times are as we know them today. They can change on short notice sometimes, but we will let you know as quickly as possible if/when that happens. The first games are August 12th at East. The C and JV will be playing together versus Service's JV, as Service has not fielded a C Team in years. The JV may get more playing time if necessary as it is technically a JV game, a higher level of competition, and counts toward their overall record. However, the coaches have done this many years now, and do a good job getting players of both levels time on the field. After that they should be playing their own separate schedules the remainder of the season. The Varsity game is a "night" game since the sun will still be up at that time of the year.

Next Saturday, August 6th, we are having shorter practices. The Booster Club will be having a bbq for the players and parents when they wrap up. Please contact them if you need more information, or can provide help with that or the other many things they do throughout the season.

One last item as it's already come up. Please remember that all practices are mandatory. It is our primary responsibility to make sure we keep the health and well-being of the players at the highest level possible. When players are missing time, we are unable to do that. Football is a fast, high velocity collision sport. If a player does not know what they are doing it could result in them being injured, or injury to another player. Obviously, there are unique circumstances that come up on occasion when a player may have to miss some or all of practice. We are understanding in most of those type of situations when they occur. However, if a player is consistently missing practice, or misses a longer stretch of time, there will be a reduction in playing time whether that is part of all of a game. It has been our policy for the past 11 years, and will continue to be so we can be safe and play the highest level of football we can at East. If you have specific questions about anything now that we have split the teams, please contact your specific coach. Each coach will be sending out their contact information this week. Please use it lightly...

Looking forward to hitting the real part of the season and getting games going again. See you out there. Go Tbirds!

Tomorrow is the day! We officially begin the 2022 Alaska High School Football Season. JV (all Sophomores unless spoken to already): 2:15 pm

Hello everyone, just heard the Kicking Specialist Camp is going to be moved to next Friday, June 3rd. With state soccer and track happening, and the extended weekend too many people weren’t able to make it. Our next team camp will immediately follow the kicking camp next Friday. Please take a moment to remember what this weekend is about and be safe if you’re traveling.

Good morning everyone. Quick reminder that we officially begin our Summer Phase of our off-season program today. We have Skills Camp today (5/20) 4:30 to 7:30 pm, and tomorrow (5/21) 1 to 4 pm. We are co-hosting a camp with the East Anchorage Eagles right before ours tomorrow from 11 to 1. That is for 5 to 15 year olds playing Pop Warner. Photos from East High Football's post 05/16/2022

Good afternoon everyone. A lot was finalized this weekend. Our players finally received their Championship rings and our entire Summer schedule has been set. The rest of May and all of June is on this post. July will be added once we make sure we aren’t adding anything else later. Everything listed is free to attend, except for the Kicking Specialist Camp (place kickers and punters). That camp is being run by East Alum, and current D1 kicker Carson Reed. Please spread the word as it’s rare to get great kicking coaches up here, and it’s cheap for an all day camp. If you have any questions let us know. Please push all players to finish strong this week, get in any missing assignments and complete their academic responsibilities. Then we’ll have fun preparing for our run to 3-peat, I mean repeat... Go Tbirds!

Good Afternoon, I wanted to take a chance to ask everyone to congratulate our seniors who are graduating today. This group leaves East as one of the most successful ever in terms of athletic achievements in multiple sports. Our football team's GPA this past year was also one of the highest we've had since I began as head coach 11 years ago. This group did all this while they overcame some of the most difficult situations I have ever seen. They fought through a world wide pandemic which altered all of our daily lives and routines, tragedies at home, cancer, and other obstacles. Yet they still achieved more than most could ever dream of doing during their lives, much less during the short period of time that our high school years really span.

To my players, it's finally onto the next adventure that life provides. My entire coaching staff and I hope that each of you get a chance to experience and learn new things. The next chapter begins today, with you getting to write the story. Congratulations to each of you, and thank you for all you brought to the program and me personally. Getting the chance to coach each of you will always be highlight of our lives.

Please stay in touch and swing by now and then. You know you will always be part of our family no matter how old you are or where your life takes you. I'm so proud of you all. Love you guys. You are the 2022 Graduating Class! Go Tbirds!

Good Morning Everyone, with graduation this week, and the end of the semester approaching, we will not have workouts the next 2 weeks. We are waiting final confirmation on some dates, then calendars showing everything going on each day for the entire summer will be posted. Plan on our annual end of School camp next week Friday, May 20th 4:30 to 7:30 pm and Saturday, May 21st 1 to 4 pm. Then workouts restart Tuesday, May 24th from 5 to 7 pm. Until then, let’s make a push to finish our academics strong. Go Tbirds!

Support for Hunter, organized by Heather Brekke

Good Afternoon Everyone,

We’ve had a run of great things happening lately. However, now a member of our football family needs our help. Hunter Dely, class of 2018, was walking along the road in April when he was struck by a car doing 80. He miraculously survived, but had extensive injuries that already required multiple surgeries. He will also require future surgeries and long-term rehabilitation which the costs of care will be astronomical.

One thing I loved immediately when I got to East is how we embrace everyone. Once part of our family, always part of our family. I’ve added a link to Hunter’s gofundme page below. If you can assist with anything, Hunter and his family would greatly appreciate it. Please share the post and/or gofundme page as much as possible. We’re all in this fight together. If you have questions please let me know. Thank you for your help.
