Basically... we suck at getting everyone to face forward and SMILE at the same time.
Anyhoo. Here's to my fellow "my family blows at photo shoots even though I spent good money on this s**t" parents.

Okay, but how cute is this my baby boy made?
We went to his class's party yesterday and he was so proud to show off his new cooking, reading, and cutting with scissors skills.
We're thrilled with his progress and love his teachers.

This girl.
She is a fourth grader. She did swimming, gymnastics, equine therapy, and occupational therapy this summer. She is messy. She dresses herself in bright colors and sequins. She loves running and .
Melanie had a lot of growth over the summer and is running into her years head first. With a bang and a thump and omghowishermothersupposedtodealwiththis.
She is so excited to be in fourth grade and all the extra independence it brings. She is learning to cope with her autism and ADHD while practicing the executive and social skills she'll need when she moves into middle school in a few years. We're really proud of her.

My baby started 1st grade!
This year, we felt so much more prepared for him to be in school full-time. He spent all summer doing weekly speech and occupational therapy plus, a month of summer school and trampoline gymnastics once a week.
All that plus being fully vaccinated and boosted made his dad and I so much more comfortable with sending him off every day on the bus.
Also, this is the first year that Finn truly understood the "What do you want to be when you grow up?" question and his little eyes LIT up at the option to be a dancer.

My mermaid decided she needed to wear lipstick to swimming class.
As one does.

We finally made it back to ! Whee!
After having to cancel our May 2019 trip due to the panny, we spent an entire glorious week back in January at the Happiest Place on Earth - and. it. was.
We had to miss a few of our favorite activities due to Covid protocol (which we were happy to do) but that allowed us to try out some new things we had never tried before:
•We dined at a few sit-down restaurants (our kids couldn't do anything but quick service before).
•We were some of the first guests to try out the limited time event "Celebration! Mickey in Toontown".
•Melanie and I made our own lightsaber.
Plus, this was the first time we utilized the DAS (Disability Access System) passes and y'all - we're never going back. My kids got to do so many rides with wait times that they could manage - SUCH a relief for all of us.
We had such an amazing time that we're planning to go back again next January... but this time, we'll be going with 15+ members of my family!

Shout out to teachers who take pictures of your kid at school and share them with you.
Both my kids were supposed to go back to school this week but we were at the epicenter of the crazy ass this week so it's been postponed until Monday.
Luckily, I work from home and (other than a prolonged power loss) we suffered no major damage here so canceling school for a week is NBD.
A huge "hang in there" for the parents who are struggling right now. Check my stories for information on filing a disaster claim. Also, grab and go meals are available at several school this week. Check your school's page for locations. It's brutal right now and there's no shame in getting all the help you deserve.
