Hunter/Jumper Lessons, shows, sales Based out of Ross Tarkington Stables in McKinney, TX. Benson Equestrian (previously Lone Star Strides) is a hunt-seat equitation and hunt-seat over fences lesson program.
Lessons are available for the beginner all the way to the more advanced rider. They are also available for pleasure riding and for those looking to get back in shape and refresh their riding skills. Our number one goal is to provide a safe, fun, learning environment that focuses on understanding the skill of riding and the proper care of horses. Karen (instructor/trainer) has been riding hunt-seat equitation and over-fences since 2002. Karen graduated from West Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology and rode for the equestrian team. Karen also took classes specifically for hunt-seat equitation/over-fences and western horsemanship. She has continued to grow in her knowledge of horse care and management as well as advancing her skill with training and schooling advanced horses. Karen is currently being mentored by Jeff White. In 2014, Karen furthered her education by becoming a Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor through PATH International. Therapeutic riding Lessons are also available. There must be a parent/guardian consultation and rider evaluation with Karen prior to scheduling lessons.
Mission: To provide a safe, fun, learning environment for all ages and skill levels! "No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle." - Winston Churchill

Keep your eye on this cute horse. Soprana has been in my program for 1 month now! Everything you see here has been from Sept. 17th until today. I entered her in her first show three days after her sale and she won Champion in her division. She has been super fun to work with and is moving along great with her training.

Lighten your horse after the jump! Does your horse get strong 💪🏽 or heavy after the jumps? This Cavaletti exercise can help him get lighter, softer and more rideable by rebalancing your canter! Many thanks to @melanie_smith_taylor for sharing this exercise with me years ago! Also thanks to owner @kleehellerman for sending me this fantastic 🦄 Celine to ride and sell or lease! Feel free to message me with any questions! I’ll try to post more videos soon! Stay safe and healthy at home, everyone! 😃🙌🏼
Introducing a new member of the team - Hollywood! I’m so excited to work with this horse and have him help me out with lessons. Big thanks to owner, Mitzi Archinal, for letting me lease him!

I came across this today. So true. This sport is hard and has a number of challenges, but it is also so rewarding. It takes grit (literally blood, sweat, and tears) and dedication and students learn life lessons working with these animals.
Let your child have a bad ride.
I know you want to protect them from the hardships of this world.
I know you want to give them success and good experiences.
I know you don't want to see them get hurt. To see them fall. To see them fail.
But, hear me out, let your child have a bad ride.
Let them cry the tears of frustration.
Let them shake the sand out from the inside of their riding pants.
Let them face the fear building inside of them.
Let them step back on again.
Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Let them hate the horse that challenges them.
Let them learn what fight and passion and ambition mean.
Let them realize that when they refuse to quit the horse will take the time to listen.
Grant them the joy of realizing that they are connecting with another living being.
Grant them the joy of realizing that they, although they are small, can be powerful.
Grant them the joy of seeing their hard work pay off, through the days of tears can come a love unspeakable.
Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Afterall, life will grant us plenty of them.

Excited to start training again in my new Miss Samshield helmet!
Congrats to Genna and Andreas (Moose) on their first blue ribbon together!
Genna is a college student who gets in as much ride time as she can when she’s in town. This was only her second show over the past couple years. Well done, rider! She also came out with two 4ths and a 5th.
More show pictures from Stony Glen yesterday!
Katie and Remy, Emerson and Moose, Kairi and Carlos, Helen and JJ.
Huge congrats to Emerson and Andreas (Moose) on their first Reserve Champion together! I’ve said it before, but her hard work is definitely paying off and it shows in the ring. At Stony Glen.
P.S. look how handsome Moosey is.
Some more show pictures from this weekend at Hidden Lake. I don’t have ribbon pictures with everyone but these girls put in some great work! Helen had her first show with JJ and I am so proud of how she rode! My 2’ kids did very well too! Well done girls.
Emerson did great with Andreas (Moose) today! Second time in 2’ and first time doing EQ classes. Hard work paying off!
Kairi and her new horse, Monte Carlo (Carlos), at their first show together!
Katie and King of Hearts (Remington) worked so hard together and learned so much this weekend! This rider had very technical rides and had to put in some major work and I couldn’t be more proud of her improvement in her rounds on day two! Well done Katie!
