LinkUP! Recap: Finding Your Herd

A huge THANK YOU to Daring Greatly for welcoming Allies and creating such a special space for our mentors and mentees to learn, connect, laugh and grow together!

During our visit, we talked about the importance of having a “herd” — the people who surround us, support us, protect us, encourage us and remind us that we don’t have to do life alone.

Our mentors and mentees created a picture of what they want their own herd to look like by asking:

Who is in your herd?
What qualities do you want in your herd?
Why is your herd so important?

Their answers included honesty, compassion, trust, respect, loyalty, empathy, accountability, love, support, protection, fun and play. And when we talked about why a herd matters, they shared words like safety, growth, encouragement, connection and joy.

Sometimes connection speaks louder than words. Sometimes belonging looks like a mentor continuing to show up. Sometimes it’s a mentee taking a step outside their comfort zone.

💙 Thank you, Daring Greatly, for opening your doors — and your herd — to ours. You gave our mentees a beautiful opportunity to experience connection, belonging, courage and joy.

Mental health affects all of us. 1 in 5 people will be affected by mental illness in their lifetime, yet many people still struggle to find support that works for them.

Horses can be part of the solution.

With their sensitivity, presence, and nonjudgmental nature, horses can create opportunities for connection, regulation, and growth, sometimes reaching people in ways words alone cannot. Through professionally guided programs, they can provide real-time feedback and help people build trust, self-awareness, and hope.

This , we’re highlighting the powerful role horses can play in mental health and the meaningful connections that can help people feel seen, supported, and less alone.
