On June 8, a select Washington D.C. audience was treated to a special advance screening of the upcoming World War II film by Rod Lurie ’84, Lucky Strike, based on true events during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.
Lurie, the acclaimed director of The Outpost and The Contender, gave a short talk prior to the show and was jointed by star Scott Eastwood, producer/co-writer Marc Frydman, and producer/star Jonathan Yunge after the show for for a Q&A panel hosted by his classmate Randy Lee
But the highlight of the evening was the guest of honor, COL (R) Herb Stern ’41, USMA’s oldest living graduate at 107 years young. Stern received two standing ovations prior to the screening, after Lurie described his actions as the acting commander of the 325th Field Artillery Battalion in December 1944 in the Battle of the Bulge. Stern received the Silver Star for his actions.

The Maxwell Taylor award, sponsored by the West Point Society of DC, was awarded to Cadet Candidate Isaak Esquivel during grad week festivities.
The award recognizes the overall number-one ranking Cadet Candidate in the USMAPS battalion and honors General Maxwell D. Taylor—the 40th Superintendent of West Point and a legendary commander of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. He was a frequent, informal visitor to the USMAPS classrooms, historically taking a vested interest in the development of prep school students
