Since the runLawrence Thanksgiving Day 5K is canceled this year, several people have mentioned they still plan to run tomorrow. Wherever and whenever you go, please be safe. The County wants you to keep crowds to 10 people or less. Wear a mask and keep your distance. You might dig out some sort of T-Day run clothing in remembrance of past runs.
Dee and I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday! See you next year.
This year was a uniquely challenging one for running clubs and events. Did your club president do a particularly outstanding job navigating the difficulties presented by COVID-19? Did a certain volunteer step up? Did your club's communication's team keep members engaged? Nominate a deserving individual or group for a 2020 RRCA National Running Award by January 1. Awards will be presented in April in Orlando, FL as part of the 63rd RRCA National Convention. https://www.rrca.org/our-programs-services/programs/national-running-awards

runLawrence (RRCA Club) sponsored our first Honor Roll 8K - Sunday morning, Oct 4, 2020. A time trial was held to facilitate the completion of an 8K course for the purpose setting KS state records for our running participants. It was a fun morning event - social distancing and masks were required, and each runner had their own staggered start.
There were 13 qualifiers out of a field of 20 who made the state road race honor roll. Congrats to Dee Boeck for setting a new age group state record. Joe Moore got a Kansas resident record at 35-39. John Huchingson posted the second all-time best behind only Paul Heitzman and Molly Wood made the list in F65-69 as the third best time.
Congrats to the runners! And thank you to all the volunteers. Our next time trial will be the Levee 12K Time Trial on Nov 8, 2020. Go to runLawrence.org for more info.

Lawrence, Kansas’ Honor Roll 8K
On Sunday, October 4, 2020, the RRCA club, RunLawrence (Lawrence, KS), is offering an opportunity for runners who've been training during the pandemic to test their speed. You can meet and see other runners at the Honor Roll 8K. We're maintaining safe health guidelines and so it is limited to the first 45 people to sign up.
The time trial format will send off invidiual runners every 30 seconds with the fastest going first, reducing the times runners will run together. The event is co-hosted with the Kansas Road Race Records and we're hoping to see many people make the state honor roll for their age category and for a few a chance to set a state record. But, anyone is invited to run for a personal best.

Rain is forecasted for this week. So what else is new when the Kansas Relays are scheduled? No Relays this year, but this is what it looked like in 1947.
Reminder: RRCA recommends all members, in accordance with current Federal guidelines, to cancel or postpone all events/organized group training runs/group training programs if these activities occur between now and the end of April and beyond based on local and state government regulations.

Notice from RRCA National:
RRCA CONVENTION WILL NOT OCCUR MARCH 19-22, 2020
The RRCA Board of Directors met this evening (March 11) in special session and voted unanimously to postpone the RRCA National Convention, which was scheduled for next week in Portland, Oregon. While this was a difficult decision, it was made based on information from a variety of health organizations, health experts, and due to the increasing numbers of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., several of which have been spread at conferences in recent days/weeks.
We recommend that you contact the hotel director to cancel your room reservations, as RRCA cannot cancel a room we did not book directly with the hotel.
We have been in contact with the Hilton Portland, and at present, the plan is to determine a new date in the coming months when it is safer for people to travel and congregate in larger groups. We recommend that you contact the hotel director to cancel your room reservations as RRCA cannot cancel a room we did not book with the hotel directly. However, the RRCA may ultimately need to cancel the 2020 Convention. If a new date cannot be safely planned with the host hotel, the RRCA will work with attendees on deferral options for 2021, or refund options if a new date cannot be finalized in 2020.
For the Sunday Zoo Run registrations, we will be issuing refunds in the coming days.
We know this is not the news to wanted to receive, and it is certainly not what we had hoped for in our planning process. As event directors, I'm sure you can appreciate the difficult environment everyone is operating in at present. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to re-schedule the 62nd RRCA Convention.
Sincerely,
Jean Knaack
