We took an impromptu mental health morning.
I am so grateful I did.
On my way to take G to school I asked him if he wanted to see the Cherry Blossoms.
"That would be soo cool." He exclaimed emphatically because well, that is just how he responds to everything I ask him. (Pretty sure he had no idea what Cherry Blossoms were.)
I took a different exit and headed toward the Tidal Basin. In my head I was stressing about my to-do list and the fact that I was missing precious uninterupted work time but I didn't show it. My vow this year to myself was to be exceptionally present in every moment, because life goes on wheather we stop to see the flowers or not. I took the advice I always give my son and took 3 big balloon breaths. I told myself the risk reward ratio on taking him out of school for these 2 hours was pretty good, and I got present.
I had heard people say their kids make them better and until now, I always thought that what they meant by that was that they had to step up their game because they had a closet full of character defects.
Maybe that is what they mean, but I know for myself God didn't bring G to me until I had done the work on myself I needed to do to be ready to raise this guy. I had to go through years of pain, trauma, being honest, healing and personal development.
G doesn't make me better because I have to hide habits from him that I don't want him to repeat. Instead, he makes me better just by being who he was born to be.
He makes slowing down and being fully present so rewarding.

If you keep skipping your workouts then just do the part you enjoy. This way you will start associating enjoyment to working out.

Since Organic food isn't always available. I manipulate what I eat for the week based on what I can find Organic that is available.
I avoid the dirty dozen so things like potatoes, berries and spinach with the highest concentration of pesticides, I try hardest to get Organic.
Food standards and labeling in this country are criminally negligent. Since I am not in the position to grow my own food I do the best I can with what is available. Ordering food shipped from organic farms is also a good option but often limited.
If we are healthy, our body is able to eliminate toxins. The problem this day in age is that we are increasing our exposure to toxins at a rate our bodies cannot eliminate and that is why the rate of disease is skyrocketing. A healthy body will heal itself.
Eating food high in micronutrients doesn't have to be boring.

Hi Meaghan,
I've attached my final photos. This program yielded great results. I lost 10 lbs in about two weeks and over the course of another 5 1/2 months lost a little more weight and gained some muscle. I have become a much faster and stronger runner.
I learned that I'm sensitive to gluten, dairy, or both. While I still eat both every once in awhile, I now get pretty sick and don't feel so hot, which reinforces the behavior to limit it substantially.
Through this process I've also had the opportunity to learn some other new behaviors that not only help me meet my goals, but also just make the rest of the day easier. My favorite behavior is meal prepping. Opening up the refrigerator and having everything "done" is amazing!!!! It's like living in your own grocery store. It also forces me to think through the week and mentally "prep" as well.
I started weight lifting for the first time, and while I don't love it, I do appreciate the effects it has. Not only does it rev my metabolism (which I can feel as some days I'm sometimes insatiably hungry), but it has made me a much stronger runner and less injury prone. Weight lifting also taught me something I can do at home when its freezing and cold outside. I'm now in the habit of lifting almost every morning. I feel weird and off kilter when I don't lift (plus my sleep is pretty awesome!).
I've really enjoyed this process and am excited to continue the progress on my own for awhile. I feel like I've been given a bag full of tools and strategies...I'm excited to see how much more progress I can make!
