1 Million Miles 06/25/2020

1 Million Miles

Nonprofits are leading in some of the most important ways right now. One non profit is the NAACP, a 501 (C) (3) organization, ensuring the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination and injustices in our communities.

One way our running communities can support their efforts is a fundraising event, 1 Million Miles For Justice virtual run, sponsored by WJR (Walk Jog Run) Club, another non profit, with race profits going to the NAACP.

Want to spice it up a bit. Miles can be recorded by running, biking, walking, hiking or combination thereof - have shoes, will travel!

The race link is: http://www.wjrclub.com/1-million-miles.html

When it comes to Minnesota's business of running, it's women at the front Is it the culture of running? Or is it something special about Minnesota that so many women have stepped up and into running's executive leadership? Could these factors boost women's leadership in other sectors?

Great information compiled by RRCA National how COVID-19 continues to affect the running scene. Enjoy reading.

From April 21 to May 6, 2020 RRCA collected over 10,000 responses on our Return to Running Events and Group Runs survey, with individuals from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participating.

The goal of the survey was to get an understanding about customer attitudes as they relate to returning to running in organized group settings and in-person events post-pandemic. We are pleased to share the full survey results, analysis of the responses, recommendations, and an in-depth discussion of methodology and demographics. https://www.rrca.org/news-articles/news-archives/2020/05/08/return-to-running-runner-attitude-survey-results

RRCA and its partners also published a survey, created to better understand feelings and attitudes about a return to running events and in groups.

Please consider taking the survey. Over 5,000 of your fellow runners already responded the first 24 hours. Very comprehensive survey. Consider using similar survey on your own community, including volunteers who may also be hesitant in returning to events. Thanks . .

RRCA Recommended Limitations for Virtual Events 03/31/2020

RRCA Recommended Limitations for Virtual Events

Staying safe and healthy definitely has its challenges. As you may have noticed, there are many organizations which are turning their cancelled races into virtual races. Some of the organizations are legitimate. Some are none. If you don't recognize the organization's name, please don't forward the website to friends. The following RRCA website has a litany of great information regarding virtual races.
Please stay safe and healthy.

In addition, the Champoeg Half Marathon was part the RRCA Western Region Championship Series, that George Rehmet, RRCA Western Regional Director, attended. Pictured with George, on the left, is Cory Bomberger, overall half marathon male winner, Suzanne Ray, US record holder for 30K female 65-69 age group, Teresa Phimister, Senior Grand Master 10k female winner, and Stephen Wright, Race Director and President, ORRC.

Earlier this month, the city of Portland announced that city'sPortland marathon RFP was awarded to Brooksee, a Utah based for-profit race host. In addition to being awarded the race event, they have purchased multiple web domains related to the event as well as negotiated the purchase of all of the assets(net financial) of Portland Marathon Inc, the former producer of Portland Marathon. This includes intangible asses such as trademarks, email lists, social media accounts, web domain and other data. 2019 marathon and half marathon events are scheduled for October 6.

Not know is where the financial assets of Portland Marathon Inc.will be distributed. If and when the Portland Marathon, Inc 501 (C)(3) dissolves and after it settles its debt, it may not transfer any remaining funds to shareholders or board members. Generally it must donate any remaining funds to another organization/s that has a similar mission to its own, a charitable organization or to the federal government. More to come

The RRCA Championship Event Series Western Region Half Marathon is scheduled on March 2 at Champoeg State Park, St Paul.
