In honor of Memorial Day on Monday, many of our Gold’s Gym DC Metro coaches will be doing the “Murph” workout to honor the men and women that have fallen in the line of duty. ❤️ (The “Murph” is specifically to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005).

Give the MURPH workout (detailed below) a try at home in any capacity possible – it’s the effort and the honor that counts:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-Ups
200 Push-Ups
300 Air Squats
1 mile Run
(*If this looks easy, add a 20lb weight vest)

Here are some alternatives depending on your access to equipment outside of the gym:
1 mile run - Any form of cardio for 10 minutes (speedwalk, elliptical, bike, row, jump rope, jumping jacks)
Pull-ups – Bent over row (with barbell, dumbbells, bands, water jugs)
Push-ups – On your knees, add an incline or decline

With hopes of reopening soon, CEO Matt Clifford and Director of Sales Chris Prevatte visited a few gyms on Friday to implement our health & safety precautions. Our entire management team will be visiting all 22 gyms in the coming days as we hope to get word soon from the State Government's on our expected reopening dates. Stay tuned DC Metro fit fam!

Today we hear from Coach Chris at Gold’s Gym Rockville Town Square and Frederick Westview & Westridge Square. She is a passionate GGX instructor specializing in Barre, Bang and Rise. She has been staying active and challenging her body with the PLANK and recommends we do the same! Check out her video as she demonstrates the standard plank with progressions to increase the challenge and intensity. 💪

Today we hear from Coach Jeev, our District Fitness Manager based at Gold’s Gym Ballston. He has been with the Gold’s Gym DC Metro team for over 9 years. In addition to his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, he has earned more than 20 fitness certifications. He truly believes that knowledge is power. He recommends we spend some time to focus on posture – it’s a key element to our physical well-being and helps our body do some of the following:
- Enables muscles to coordinate in a more efficient manner: helping us conserve energy
- Holds our spine in proper position and helps align our Joints
- Prevents lower and upper back tension and pain
- Increases mobility throughout our body by ensuring proper alignment

Give these 3 exercises a try today to improve your posture and overall body alignment.

She’s been with us for over 9 years and recommends this great 10 MINUTE workout you can do at home, no equipment needed. Check it out: Set your timer to 10 minutes, do as many push-ups as you can in 30 seconds, then as many V-ups in the next 30 seconds. Repeat for 10 minutes. He recommends this great 6 MINUTE workout you can do at home, no equipment needed. Check it out: AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) complete 40 reps of these 3 exercises: Air Squats, Sit-up, Push-up. Aaron’s favorite move from home is the LUNGE; you can do a few sets stationary (as shown) or progress to the walking lunge then jumping lunge.

As a new Dad, Coach Bull does a lot of squats all day long picking up his one year old. 😰 Check out his SQUAT variations and add a progressive set to your workout today: Try 10 air squats, followed by 10 squats with weight, followed by 10 jump squats.
