The field is set for Saturday nights RG1 TQHA Sale Futurity at Retama Park.

Fastest qualifier Cowboys Flying comes in as the heavy 9/5 morning line favorite from the Ramiro Villarreal barn. The gelding by Flying Cowboy 123 is a perfect 3 for 3 headed into the finals for owners Double J Racing. He already picked up a stakes win earlier in the year capturing the Texas Breeders Futurity at Sam Houston. Nestor Duran will be in the irons Saturday.

Denis Moran’s Whoopie Cowgirl is the early second choice at 4/1. The filly also sired by Flying Cowboy 123 is set to run in her third Futurity already this year. Another Ramiro Villarreal trainee she’s won the G2 Louisiana Downs Futurity in March and was also a finalist in the Texas Breeders Futurity a couple races back. The nations leading rider Francisco Calderon will be aboard.

Apollitical Cowboy comes in as the early third choice for owners Alfonso Rangel and Luis Castellanos. This c**t also competes in his third Futurity of the year this weekend. He was runner up in the Texas Breeders Futurity and a finalist in the G2 Louisiana Downs Futurity early in the year. Isidro Hinojosa conditions the Flying Cowboy 123 c**t and Victor Urieta Jr will be the pilot.

Trainer Chad Summers said:

“We let a little too much of the rail open up and it was a good ride from Vargas to take advantage of it and unfortunately we had to settle for second.”

Lopez kept Napoleon Solo wide throughout and appeared determined to keep Further Ado floated out whenever possible. Meanwhile, the rail was left wide open for the winning move.

Maybe those were the instructions—but it was certainly an interesting ride.
