COVID-19 Business Interruption Fund - Loudoun County Economic Development, VA

I would like to express my thanks to Loudoun County Government for the COVID-19 Business Interruption Grant! It is very much appreciated!

biz.loudoun.gov Applications are in and certified for Loudoun’s COVID-19 Business Interruption Fund. Our Executive Director Buddy Rizer will draw the application numbers for the grant recipients and announce them live. WATCH:

Voting starts today! Please take the opportunity to vote for our very own Coach Ed for the fencing Hall of Fame!

As an FYI, if you have a supporting membership (designed for parents of fencers), you are allowed to vote. The cost is $25 per year. Fencers over 17 with competitive memberships are also allowed to vote.

Another member of Region 6, Ed Donofrio, is on the ballot in this year's election for induction into the USA Fencing Hall of Fame, and we're asking for your support to help vote him in. Ed was one of the premier fencers of his era. He was a multiple time U.S. Champion, Olympian (semi-finalist), and multiple time World Cup finalist among so many, many other accomplishments.

Ed Donofrio went on to become the Head Coach at the U.S. Naval Academy, and now coaches at Loudoun International Fencing Club in Virginia.

Richard Weiss - USA Fencing Member At Large Candidate for Board

Please consider voting for Rich Weiss for At Large Director of USA Fencing. Voting starts tomorrow and goes until May 27th. He is Chairman of the Virginia Division and amazes me with his dedication to the sport.

I am a candidate for the At Large Board position of USA Fencing for the 2020 season. Please look at all candidate statements and most definitely VOTE. Election opens on May 6. Thank you!

Loudoun Fencing will be closed for all activities, including lessons, through at least April 6th!

While we are very anxious to get back to the fun, Loudoun Fencing will remain closed (with the exception of private lessons) until further notice! #fencing #ashburn #leesburg #sterling #loudouncounty #coronavirusclosure

[03/14/20]   From USA Fencing:

Over the course of the last seven days, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has prompted unprecedented changes within the world of sport.

In prioritizing the health and wellness of all our members, USA Fencing will not be sanctioning any local, regional, national or international tournaments from March 16-April 6.

Divisions are directed to postpone all sanctioned competitions across the country through April 6, 2020.

In order to allow participants from postponed tournaments to still be eligible to compete at the National Championships and July Challenge, the deadlines have been extended as follows:

Division Qualifying Forms Submission Deadline: June 1Petition Deadline: June 3Regular Fee Deadline: June 3Triple Fee Deadline: June 12Withdraw Deadline: June 12
Classification Deadline: June 12
Check-In Times Posted: June 8 Please provide this information to clubs within your Division.

Since Loudoun County Schools have closed, so has Loudoun Fencing. We will be closed today through this Saturday while we figure out how to move forward. Please check your email for updates.

Congratulations Drithi for taking bronze at the Jedi Challenge last weekend! #fencing #ashburn #sterling #leesburg #loudouncounty

[03/10/20]   Regarding how Loudoun fencing is reacting to the threat of the coronavirus:

Masks and epee handles will be sprayed or wiped with hand sanitizer by a coach before and after use.

If you would like to purchase a new mask and/or glove, we will be placing an order with Absolute Fencing. The cost of a new mask is $69. The cost of a new glove is $12. Please see whoever is working the front.

If you would like to purchase a used club mask and/or glove to take home with you. We will charge $35 for the mask and $5 for the glove. Please see whoever is working the front.

Fencers will be told NOT to shake hands after fencing. This actually came down from USA Fencing. At the end of bouts, for the time being, fencers are only required to salute and should NOT shake hands or elbow bump.

Coaches will not use warm up games and drills that require fencers to tag one another.

The door handles to the club, the table services, and the buttons on the coffee machine will be wiped down at the beginning and end of each day.

If you or your child have any symptoms, even of a cold, please skip class that day. You will be able to make it up in a comparable class when you are healthy.

Please remember to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water often, and to avoid touching your face!

If the schools should close, the club will also close.

Stay healthy!

Food for thought!

"The beauty of the sport is that you can make it as intense as you want. You can focus more on technique with a limited range of motion or you can move your opponent up and down the strip until you both get winded and pass out. The intensity level is completely up to you." - 2016 Olympic medalist Dagmara Wozniak on how using fencing as part of your fitness routine at any level.

Open fencing tonight is from 7-9! See you there! #fencing #ashburn #sterling #leesburg #loudouncounty

FENCING LESSONS, CLASSES, CAMPS, AND OPEN SPARRING.

Welcome to Loudoun International Fencing Club. Our Mission is to establish a home for the fencers of Loudoun County and the surrounding areas regardless of their experience level or aspirations. We hope to create a supportive club environment for everyone, from first-time fencers just wanting to give the sport a try to competitive fencers hoping to make that NCAA team, or to veteran fencers just looking for a place to fence.

Our fencing programs introduce students to the many benefits of this Olympic sport. Beyond the fitness benefits, fencing promotes intellectual development, decision making skills, self discipline, and confidence, all taught in a safe, supportive environment. Loudoun International Fencing Club and it’s staff are insured members of the United States Fencing Association. Our camps, lessons and classes focus on electric Epee fencing, the modern evolution of the rapier duel. Epee fencing is the most straightforward of the three Olympic Fencing disciplines: the athlete that hits first scores the touch and the whole body is target. There are no right of way rules.

Please join us for a fun workout, fencing and new friendships.
