Kyle Raymond, Get Out & Go Tours' Tour Operations Manager, climbs to the top of the trail after Clark's Gap on the W&OD Trail tonight, passing one of our favorite trail landmarks -- the stone faced Dry Mill Rd bridge over the top. We had a little fun with it at the end.
About the Bone Cave
The GAP trail now allows cyclists, walkers, and horseback riders to pass the Bone Cave, discovered in 1910 while the railroad was being built, and excavated between 1910 and 1914. Many fossilized bones were found here, including some skeletons of extinct species that are now on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
Helmstetter's Curve - Great Allegheny Passage
Helmstetters Curve is among the most popular of spots along the GAP, as it was when the railroad ran. Today, the MD Scenic Railway passes this spot on its run up to and back from Frostburg, creating a scenic view.
Laughter and (Exagerated) Story Telling from the Tour
Frostburg served as the tours' last stop, and by then, everyone was having a good time, laughing, and re-telling stories from the weekend (or creating tall tales).

Fast descents are the reward for getting to the top of the Eastern Continental Divide. Here Bernice continues down from Big Savage Tunnel toward Frostburg

Views Crossing the Salisbury Viaduct - GAP Trail
Views of the valley below the Salisbury Viaduct near Meyersdale, PA on the Great Allegheny Passage, formerly the railbed of the Western Maryland Railroad.
Meyers Cemetery
Meyers Cemetery is located next to the GAP trail at the west end of the Salisbury Viaduct. In 2011, vandals destroyed nearly all of the headstones, of which some have been restored and repositioned to their proper location. This cemetery reflects early settlers to the area (Meyersdale, get it?) and represents the late 1800s and early 1900s. Note the two daughters who died together on the last headstone.
Riding Scenes Along the GAP
Scenes while riding the GAP trail into Meyersdale, PA. Windmills, cornfields, woods, and the wheels we see alot.
