Good article ...not all stress fractures right away, they happen over time.

Not all fractures happen in a single instant. Stress fractures, for example, are hairline cracks caused by overuse. Here you can see stress fractures in the tibia. The foot and ankle are common sites of stress fractures in athletes whose sports require frequent repetitive, intense motion such as running or jumping. In the case of the tibia, the muscles of the lower leg eventually become too fatigued to absorb the shock, and the bones “take over” instead. The result is tiny fractures on the bone.

On Sunday I brought a small pot and asked this question - "What would happen if you put the empty pot on the stove and turned up the heat?"

What if you have just a little bit of water in the pan and you put it on the stove, just like you do when you work out hard, or when you burn up fluids in brain tissue at work for 11 hours,(and your children), or your muscles do not have water to excite your nueromuscular response you need to exercise.

Injury.

NeuroKinetic Therapy

High school basketball player had seen me before for pain in her feet. We found her toe flexors were overworking for her glutes. She went back to practice, running and jumping, and now has sore feet again. Using the NKT testing protocol, I found not only her glutes under active, but her quads as well. Adding the jumping had challenged her motor control to the point where her brain couldn't organize the extra demand. Also had her do a Single Leg Stance (SLS) assessment to check her balance. She gripped with her toes. Released the toe flexors proximally in the calf, followed by activation of the glutes and quads. Her SLS was much better. Better to address these things when they're little as opposed to waiting. My favorite is "I thought it would get better."
