Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis can be a frustrating injury especially when the tendon that causes pain to the elbow is super inflamed or damaged due to lack of blood flow from chronicity. The best thing to do is to address any tendon injury quickly and find the cause. Tendon injuries just don’t happen they are caused by increased stress being imposed on the area because another area in the body is not doing its job.
-For instance tennis elbow can be caused by excessive gripping (hammering or exercise), excessive extension of the wrist (typing) and other various activities. If truly caused by those acute activities rest and stretching should help. But there are those cases where no matter how much rest and stretching you do the pain is still there. Those are the cases we see. 95% of the time the pain in the elbow is referred from the neck. Which has caused a weakness to the muscles controlling the arm and now resulting in increased stress to the tendon and surrounding muscles.
- Because the control center (nervous system) is not working appropriately the injured area cannot heal. Often by time this is noticed damage has now been caused to the tendon and and no further medical intervention like cortisone, PRP and surgery must be performed.
-The point of the story is find the source prior to constantly treating the pain with the same intervention. Doing it in this order will improve symptoms, mobility, function and decrease damage to the painful area.

-Do you have a cohesive relationship with the 5 traits above?? If not, don’t be mad with yourself we are all striving to get all of these pillars working together.
-Most importantly we should strive to consistently work on all five pillars; as if one is not addressed you may find sickness in your life. When we talk about sickness we are talking about being easily injured, frequent sickness, easily distracted, irritable, rashes, anxiety and the list goes on.
-The goal isn’t to find balance in these areas (because in life we will always be working on one aspect more than another) but rather it is about having a cohesive relationship with all five pillars where they all are working together.
-It’s important to work on fitness to help with your mental health which will help with your relationships. Having healthy finances will also help decrease stress. Having faith allows you to trust in something or someone else greater than yourself.
-Try working on these and see if you can find true abundance in your life.

Due to lack of time, expertise and experience we often see a “throw wall on a mud” method of treatment for many injuries. If we take the time to assess the whole person instead of the pain complaint we can unfold the whole story leading to decreased treatments and visit and having long standing changes with the patients function and quality of life.
-With specificity of treatments choose the right manual technique, modality and exercise that gives permanency. This permanence in change allows the clinician to unfold other aspects of the injury which will optimize the patients care.
- It is time for us to leave our clinicians accountable. We should be focused on rewards for outcomes rather than treatment visits with little to no lasting functional changes.
