Kirby has established a as Top 3 defense every year. That will never change. Now he is starting on QBs and WRs. This is DANGEROUS for the rest of the college football world. Remember Saban in 2008/2009 when he made the change!!! There will be another 2 or maybe 3 Nattys for Kirby and UGA in the next 5 years!!!
Bull's Dawg Report
This will be a weekly update on Georgia Football in my personal thoughts on the program and games.
It was another "off year" for UGA but a year that 95% of the country would be proud off. Here are some shortcomings and areas the need improvements in my opinion and that is WR/TE, offensive coordinator, and some assistants that have a need to prove themselves.
We definitely need help at catching the ball and I think we will have some incoming freshman that can help immediately. Milton HS's 4 star WR CJ Wiley is a 6'-4", 195 lb, with speed and sure hands. He is being compared to the AJ Green and A&Ms Noah Thomas type WR. North Oconee HS's 4 star WR Landon Roldan is a 6'-0", 180 lb is a Ladd McConkey type slot guy with straight line speed and sure hands. We also have the nations's #1 TE prospect and Folkston HS's 4 star TE Elyiss Williams. He is a BEAST at 6'-7" at 240 lbs with an outstanding catch radius. Even at that size he has a tremendous ability to get separation and will be a huge red zone and short yardage target. I know these guys are Freshmen but look around the country at Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith freshman WR and Bama's Ryan Williams. These 17 and 18 year old are some of the best in the country.
I think Kirby is still the best coach in the country but he seemed to lose that fire and intensity this season and I feel that has played a HUGE part in UGAs succes the past 7 to 8 seasons. I hate to say complacent but that tends to come with age and after you have proven yourself. It happens at every job. I think Kirby needs some younger coordinators and/or other coaches with something to prove. I am a Bobo fan but many times this season it seemed that we were "bogged down" on offense. There wasn't much creativity. Maybe it's time for Bobo to retire or become a "offensive consultant" and hand the reigns over to someone that has the need to prove themselves. Lincoln Riley is about to be fired as HC at USC and will have the need to reestablish himself. Maybe former Dawg Thomas Brown who came up through the McVay coaching group? Maybe a shot in the dark but someone like Frank Reich who has NFL experience. It seems like some older NFL guys are trying their hand with a fresh start in college football now.

UGA vs Texas
Let's face it, college football isn't the same due to NILs and the transfer portal. The days of UGA and other top programs being extremely talented and 3 deep at every position is a thing of the past. This is why you see the Vandy's and Kentucky's of the world pulling off "upsets". Those guys that were #2 and #3 at bigger schools are now starters at the smaller programs.
Six games into 2024 UGA is ranked #5 and is at 5-1 with the 1 loss being a tight one against Bama. This was an impressive game due to Bama jumping up to a 28-0 lead but only winning by 7 points. Hell, we even lead the game late in the 4th quarter even if it was only for 13 seconds. It showed the fight and grit that good playoff teams need. 10 years ago UGA fans would be thrilled to be in this position. However, I think currently we are a victim of our own success. Two Nattys in 3 years, won 42 straight regular season games, etc etc. That isn't going to happen every season. It might never happen again at any school!! We got to understand that not being as deep personal wise as previous years means (see above) means injuries are going to play a lot bigger role in success!!! We have had a minimum of 3 to 5 starters out since week 2. UGA football is OK. Fans need to learn football, take a breath, and trust in Kirby!! Hell, I have even seen some idiots calling for Kirby to be fire, WTH??
This week I think UGA wins 37-34. It will be a shoot out kind of game. I think UGA will cause 4 stops/punts and create 2 turnovers (fumbles/INTs). If we can do that we win. People want to talk about the Texas defense but the best offense they have faced this season is ranked #75 offense in the nation. With Bobo taking the training wheels of last week and showing Beck can actually throw UGA to a victory was a huge step. The old scheme of running the ball for 3 quarters and wearing down the opposing defense is a thing of the past due to depth (see above). We are going to have to sling the ball around due to a weaker than normal secondary. We also need Mykel Williams and the rest of the front to get pressure on the QB. It takes just over 3 seconds to hit a deep ball. We need sacks and pressure to help this young secondary out. Getting Williams back 100% from injury will definitely help. We had 0 sacks in the last 2 games. Another thing I think that has to happen is make Ellis Robinson a starter in the defensive backfired. This 5 star Freshman can be a shutdown machine and create TOs. We also need Anthony Evans and Humpries to become the WRs we need to make a run. I expect Evans, a native of Texas, to show out in this game when he returns home for the first time since going to Athens. Another thing for the idiots out there blaming Bobo, even in the 1 loss we scored 34 points!! When UGA scores 34 points they should win and if they don't then it most definitely isn't the offensive coordinators fault. Bobo was a finalist, 1 of 3, for the Broyles Award last year. That award goes to the best assistant coach in the country. Stop blaming Bobo just because you heard your Dad and Uncles doing the s**t 12 years ago. Just trust in Kirby, if Bobo was a problem then you know Kirby would make a change!! Also, just incase we do loose this week....a 10-2 UGA team will still make the playoffs. Might not make the SEC Championship but we will still be in. The good thing about that would mean we could have a chance to host a playoff game in Athens!!! As always, would love to hear yalls comments and concerns. Go Dawgs and Horns down!!
My prediction for Saturday is 34-24 Dawgs. I think Dillion Bell has a career type game. UGA has kept him under the radar for this game. This will open up the run game for UGA. Jalon Walker will keep Milroe's scramble yards to a minimum and I just don't think Milroe can put together no more than 2 or 3 drives of 12 to 14 plays to march up and down the field. What's your thoughts?
I went back and watched alot of the UGA vs UK game. It looked like we were running the ball in situations were they had 7 defenders and we only had 6 blockers. That's not good. Not sure if it was a bad overall scheme, Carson making poor decisions on check downs/RPOs, or just poor play calling from Bobo. I am sure it was a mixture of all 3 to an extent but it has to be fixed. I would rather find a hole in the offense against UK where we can squeak out a win. You run into that in Tuscaloosa and it will get ugly very quick. My other thought that I have not heard anyone mention is, was it an advantage for UK to have a former UGA QB that, for the past 3 seasons, had been running the 2s and scout team against Kirby's defense?? Rep after rep, day in and day out!!
I got alot of "Mike Bobo" comments on previous post that was discussing UGA's narrow 13-12 victory in Lexington this past Saturday. I don't think most people realize that UGA average 40.14 points per game in 2023 under Bobo. That was Bobo's first season back as OC and it was Carson Beck's first season as a starting QB. This performance led to Mike Bobo being 1 of 3 finalists for The Broyles Award. This is an award given out each year to the NATION'S top assistant coach/coordinator. This award isn't for those coordinators "riding their best friends coat tail". This was a great comeback for Bobo. I know alot of us still hold a grudge from Bobo's last stint as OC at UGA. Sure he could have been "predictable" at times but even still he averaged over 36 points per game back then. The defense SUCKED during Bobo's first run as OC. They couldn't stop anybody and that's what cost them Ws. The numbers don't lie!! Bobo is a legit OC!! If he wasn't, wouldn't Kiby replace him? Kirby obviously doesn't settle for anything other than the best. He is way to competitive for that. This man is having a stroke in the 4th quarter over a missed assignment when the team is up by 52 points. Why is that people still like to blame Bobo?? Thoughts? Complaints? Explanations?
This is Alan Baughcum. I want to try something new. Bull's Dawg Report!! Bull was a nickname my Daddy gave me as a child plus it works for this situation. I like sharing my thoughts on UGA football. These are just my thoughts but feel free to discuss and give your opinion. This is a page for all to comment, ask questions, etc. If nobody likes it atleast it will be fun for me and it's something I am passionate about.
As always it was a tough one in Lexington for Kirby Smart. Mark Swoops is an old school coach who recruits to play grown man football in the trenches and UK did just that. UGA had 4 DLs out due to injury. This included, in my opinion on of the best players on that defensive side of the ball, Mykel Williams. UGA still held UK to only FGs the entire game. On offense I think the UGA running game looks small. Alot of speed but not much power. Hopefully this will change once Roderick Robinson II returns from injury sooner than later. The OL took a huge hit when Senior Tate Ratledge went down early in the game. I think our backup played excelent slowing down UK's All American DL Deone Walker. The offense couldn't find a groove in the first half but did just enough to squeak out a victory. When it mattered, they produced first downs and ran the clock out late in the 4th quarter. Overall it was one of those not so pretty on the road SEC battles that UGA found a way to win. I kind of like seeing the Dawgs squeak one out this early in the season. This shows the boys they are not untouchable and that there is work to do.Kirby was preaching that all week long leading up to this game so now they have lived it and hopefully understand it better. What I like more is seeing UGA drop in the standings. It gives Kirby some fire power for motivation. All of that plus an off week to heal up. I think they will be ready for Tuscaloosa in a few weeks.
