🟡Art of Deflecting as an infielder. How to train short quick movements transitioning to throw.

⚫️Can be the difference between safe or out on double play feeds, cut and relays, and dealing with green runners.

1️⃣Only on balls inside the body
2️⃣Thumb and Thumb set up | or finger tips to the sky and elbows in
3️⃣Trying to push flat to ball, without turning glove to flip ball out
4️⃣Palm has to push underneath and up, slight diagonal movement to throwing shoulder.
5️⃣Fingers to the sky, pull like a lawn mower, short movements to throw, find 4 seam grip.

🔑This might be for more advanced ages learning how to transition quicker.

Remember this are good feeds, inside the body, anything outisde of the body I catch and bring to shoulder. 🎦coming soon.

⚫️Angle #6 - Controlling the V-Cut Backhand

🟡Trying to teach infields how to be athletic through multiple different angles.
▶️The more options they have, the more they will be able to adjust when the ball is hit off the bat.
▶️This is a ball they can not push around, set up up for the hop and allow momentum to transition back to bag.

🔑Defining the Approach for infielders is everything. They won’t do what they don’t know. Give them outlets.

💭Would you advise a hitter steps to the plate without an approach? An idea of what he wants to do?
▶️Game will tell you approach.
1️⃣What type of hitter?
2️⃣Whats he trying to do today?
3️⃣What was his last outcome?
4️⃣Whos on the mound?
5️⃣What situation am I in?

▶️Now go be GREAT

⚫️Angle #4 of 8
1️⃣Forehand - Run through
2️⃣Set up - Routine Windows 4-8 steps
3️⃣Closed Backhand (No ground gained)
4️⃣Run through Backhand (ground gained)
🔜5️⃣➖8️⃣

🟡This is not the first approach, but is a life saver on tough hops we approach yearly.

🔑Goal is to progress through a hop FORWARD.
▶️Why he afraid to push through when that’s the only play.
▶️Promote athleticism in your guys, and let them adjust to depth of hop, temperature of ball, and speed of runner.
▶️Give your infielders outlets to use, and let them go use them.

💭How many times have you sat back and waited for the hop you want, versus going to attack the hop you need? How many times do you make your mistakes moving forward?

Check out 🎦Reel for view of angle and movements.

🟡Angle #3 - Closed Backhand

⚫️Continues to progress off our routine windows. This ball is 8-12 feet inside our box. BE GREAT IN THE WINDOW.

▶️Highly underrated movement in the infield.
▶️Focused on adjusting back towards the target.
▶️Gives secondary outlet on hard ground balls, and a soft angle (not gaining ground)

💭Moving away from the baseball, how do I get my direction pulled back? What happened is if I can’t push through the baseball?

🔑FOOTWORK
🪨Plant off right foot, direct to the left foot
▶️Align the steps in rhythm to control the base
▶️Feet and hips have to get set back to the target

How would you attack the backhand?

🟡Angle #2 can determine how high your ceiling. Start on the open hand run through and move to set up.

🔑Starting with the run through #1 and moving into the set up #2 creates good habits with how they stride. Take normal steps. Shortening and lengthening those steps depends on set up, direction, angle, and style of play.
▶️Control environment
▶️Isolate the feet
▶️Slow down and speed up the eternal clock.
▶️Get creative with finishing

⚫️Making the routine play consistently means your preparation and readiness are working together. That routine angle happens in many different ways throughout the year.

💭How often do you head straight into fungos? No hip mobility, no hands progression, no preparation of the feet, just rolling out.

Do you take BP before a game?

🔑You can’t LISTEN to jimmy, you have to HEAR jimmy.

💭Being able to apply concepts is extremely important for athletes fitting in a college settings. Can you get past the noise, and hear the message?

⚫️1st angle out of the rolling routine.
🎦coming soon

Extremely excited to share my daily routine in great detail.

🟡Starts with a open hand run through 8-12 feet to the right. You want to PUSH through your lane using 1st two steps.

1️⃣Stride out - get length in steps
2️⃣Be athletic - move low and quick
3️⃣Maximize Ground
4️⃣Minimize steps - take 6 instead of 11

⏹Set up:
Bucket - Roller - Cones - Sweat Equity

🔑Use these moments like any hitter would off a tee, a pitcher with a short box/flat ground, or a catcher working base blocks. FEET are most important aspect of fielding.

💭Why aren’t we taking 8 minutes a day to walk through our angles before we run? To focus on the technical movements, versus being mishandled by bad steps.
❗️Isolate the Feet after your Isolate the hands.

⚫️Short and Sweet. Position and mobility dictates positioning and height within base.

🐅Corner positions vs Middle positions 🐆
🟡Tiger vs Jaguar - both deadly hunters
➡️Tigers are the largest cats in the jungle getting up to 300 kgs, while the jaguar is up to 150 kgs leaving a difference in weight and stature.
➡️Corner infielders 🐅are generally the larger fielders within the game, while Middle infielders range in various different sizes.🐆

⏺Both are extremely powerful animals, but in their respective manners. Same goes for the infield. Corner infielders have a different responsibility than the middle infielder has.

➖Body positioning is based on height
➖Closer to the hitter, the lower the better
➖Start with your glove already in position
➖XL frames move better when the hips are on level with baseball early
➖Middle infielders higher, further from hitter, more time to react and range.
