Maybe happiness isn’t always about changing your whole life.

Maybe it’s about building a life with enough little moments that you’re excited for tomorrow.

We often think happiness comes from the big moments.

But sometimes it’s knowing there’s something waiting for you tomorrow.

A walk.
A weekend away.
Coffee with a friend.
A soccer game.
A good book.
Dinner with family.

Tiny moments of anticipation carry more weight than we give them credit for.

Maybe that’s why one of the greatest protective factors in life is building a life that gives you something to look forward to.

🤍 What’s one thing you’re looking forward to tomorrow?

One of the biggest things addiction counseling has taught me is that behaviors rarely happen in isolation.

Sometimes the behavior is obvious. Drinking. Overeating. Overworking. Overexercising. Scrolling. Avoiding.

But the behavior is usually answering a question we haven’t asked yet.

What was this helping someone survive?
What need was it trying to meet?
What pain was it trying to quiet?

That doesn’t make every behavior healthy.

But it does make it understandable.

And understanding is often where real change begins.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to ask, “What’s wrong with them?” Instead, try asking, “What happened to them?” or “What was this behavior trying to solve?”

Follow if you’re more interested in understanding behavior than judging it.

The more I study psychology and human behavior, the more I realize that so many things we label as “bad behavior” make a lot more sense once we understand what’s underneath them.

That doesn’t mean every behavior is healthy or without consequences. It means understanding often opens the door to change in a way judgment rarely does.

If one of these slides made you pause, save it for later. These are reminders I come back to often, too.

Which one stayed with you the most?

I’m a mom…of course my firstborn son has known since he was 10 that he wants to serve in the military, proudly wears his Civil Air Patrol uniform, irons his shirts, shines his shoes, and notices every little detail…because I am none of those things!!

Sometimes it’s funny how our kids end up being exactly who they’re meant to be, even when they’re nothing like us. ❤️
