Many people use the word boss interchangeably with leadership, but the two are entirely different, for example, as illustrated by Lolly Daskal:

-A boss has no interest in people development; a leader is interested in helping their team grow and develop.
-A boss takes the credit; a leader gives credit to others.
-The boss says, "Go!" the leader says, "Let's go!"
-A boss instills fear; a leader inspires enthusiasm.
-A boss thinks in terms of him or herself; a leader thinks in terms of we.
-A boss depends on their own authority; a leader depends on mutual accountability and trust.

When you become a leader, you are someone who values people. It's clear that there are plenty of bosses in this world who only care about themselves. But we can be different. Let's show everyone what it means to be a true leader by putting others first and making a positive impact on the world.

Be a leader, not a boss.

Success in business depends on the collective knowledge of people, not just one individual. It's impossible for one person to be an expert in everything. Brian Scudamore believes that effective leaders don't always try to have the final say. They listen to their team, ask pertinent questions, and encourage everyone to contribute. Instead of doing everything themselves, they seek out talented individuals best suited for specific tasks. By having the right team in place, leaders can focus on their strengths, such as leading and planning for the future of the company.

Great leaders don't feel the need to constantly prove themselves or know everything. They're not afraid to admit their mistakes and embrace the chance to learn from others. Their goal isn't to be the brightest mind in the room but to create a team of brilliant individuals and motivate them to achieve the impossible.

Mistakes will happen; it is inevitable; what happens after differentiates average organizations from great ones. When errors are made, our actions shift from doing the right thing to covering our behinds in many instances. Pointing fingers rather than accepting personal responsibility, hiding errors rather than fixing them, and allowing minor problems to become big ones because they’re inadequately addressed.

Remember that mistakes are vital to our growth; we often put way too much pressure on ourselves to seek some unrealistic ideal of perfection. I have seen people in leadership positions duck and throw their people under the bus when mistakes happen, leading to mistrust, lack of inspiration, and fear of trying anything new.

The most extraordinary people in their felids have made countless mistakes; they didn’t give up. They persevered and inspired many people to follow their example; as Albert Einstein puts it, a person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.

Sometimes it is very challenging to stay positive in a negative situation?

In many instances, when we find ourselves in these situations, it becomes very easy to adopt a negative mindset and, in the process, blame everyone and everything for the world of problems happening in our lives or in our organization.

It's tough, I know, but that's what being a leader is all about, and that's why leadership is not for the faint at heart. Your leadership is tested in a crisis, and you can immediately deduce what kind of leader you are when you are faced with challenging situations that stretch you to think beyond your comfort zone.

It's all a matter of mindset because, as the leader, you have to inspire your team to believe that everything will be okay, which is why being positive in a negative situation is not naive; it's leadership.

Great leaders aren’t know-it-alls who continuously try to outshine everyone. Instead, they admit when they’re wrong and genuinely want to learn from others. It’s not about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about building a team with the most intelligent people you can find.

When you build a team, you must see their strength as a complement to your weakness, not a threat to your position or authority. No one is an expert in everything; the most robust businesses are built on the most brilliant people – not on one person. At the end of the day, it’s not about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about building a team with the most intelligent people you can find and inspiring them to believe in the impossible.
