World Cloud Security Day is but one chapter in the story of cloud computing. In its first days, the idea of storing data “in the cloud” was groundbreaking. So novel an idea that many scoffed at it – at least at first.
But that groundbreaking idea did take root despite the naysayers. Today, cloud computing is the digital backbone for many organizations. It has completely overhauled how we store and manage data. However, this rapid growth brought with it an all-new concern. The security challenges.
Recognizing this, Lookout, a cloud security leader, decided to call attention to the matter, thus established. World Cloud Security Day. Their goal?
To shed light on these evolving challenges and encourage adopting more effective security practices. This day is a yearly checkpoint for both consumers and businesses alike. It’s a day to pause, reflect, and fortify our digital defenses.

Pick One,

Professional Impact:
In business and career decisions, this quote reminds us to carefully evaluate whose advice we follow. Well-meaning friends or family who aren't business owners may not understand the risks and complexities of running a company. As a CEO making decisions about federal contracts, vendor partnerships, or business investments, you bear the consequences of those choices not the casual advisor. This means prioritizing input from mentors who have walked similar paths, industry experts, or trusted advisors with relevant experience.

Accountability in Decision-Making:
The quote emphasizes personal accountability. When you make decisions based on others' opinions without considering their stake in the outcome, you relinquish control of your future. Every choice from hiring employees to selecting technology partners to pursuing government contracts—should be evaluated through the lens of who will live with the results. You will, not them.

Filtering Advice:
This wisdom helps us develop better judgment about whose counsel to seek. Someone offering business advice who has never run a business, never faced payroll challenges, or never navigated complex regulations may provide perspectives that sound good in theory but fail in practice. The quote encourages us to seek guidance from those with skin in the game or proven experience in the specific area.

Personal Relationships:
Beyond business, this applies to major life decisions where to live, career changes, financial investments, or family matters. People offering opinions rarely share the burden of living with the consequences. This doesn't mean ignoring all advice, but rather weighing it appropriately based on the advisor's experience and their investment in your outcome.

Confidence and Self-Trust:
Ultimately, this quote builds self-reliance and confidence in your own judgment. While input from others is valuable, the final decision must align with your goals, values, and willingness to accept the results. It empowers you to trust your instincts when they conflict with popular opinion, especially when you've done your due diligence.

Today marks a monumental milestone - the 250th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps! 🇺🇸

On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution to raise two battalions of Continental Marines, establishing what would become one of the most elite fighting forces in history. Under the leadership of Captain Samuel Nicholas, the first Marine recruiting headquarters was set up at the historic Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.

For 250 years, Marines have exemplified honor, courage, and commitment from the shores of Tripoli to Belleau Wood, from Iwo Jima to the deserts of the Middle East. Through every conflict and challenge, they've answered the call with unwavering dedication.

Today, over 200,000 active duty and reserve Marines continue this proud legacy, serving in every clime and place. The traditional birthday celebration includes the ceremonial cake cutting with a Mameluke sword, where the oldest Marine passes a piece to the youngest symbolizing the passing of knowledge, experience, and tradition from one generation to the next.

To all Marines past and present: Happy 250th Birthday! Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

National Candy Corn Day

In the late 1800’s, George Renniger of the Wunderle Candy Company created this colorful confection to celebrate the beauty of corn, and the beautiful colors that autumn brings along with it. In preparation for winter as a long and cold affair, with electricity not quite having come into common usage, the candy was created as a bright spot. The bright colors of these candies could last throughout, bringing both a visceral joy and a burst of much-needed sugar during the darker time of the year when days are short and nights are long.

Candy Corn was notable partially due to the fact that it was the world’s first tri-color candy! It didn’t hurt that the related companies realized that specialized candy for Halloween was becoming increasingly popular in this era. So more and more styles of Halloween candies became popular during this time of the year. Next on the list to be created by Wunderle were the Candy Pumpkins made from Mellocreme–a very close cousin to Candy Corn that is often sold in the same bag, called Autumn Mix.

And though a little bit will go a long way when it comes to sugar consumption, candy corn is actually fat free. National Candy Corn Day is the celebration of this delicious treat, and everything to follow it in years to come.

Smart is Cool Day

If there’s ever a time to show off those incredible IQ test results, Smart is Cool Day is probably it. Though it’s not clear where the tradition started, the eggheaded individual’s idea was absolutely brilliant.

In celebration of Smart is Cool Day, many schools will put together shows for their pupils and students and invite both street-smart youngsters and successful degree holders to speak to them about the importance of staying in school.

But perhaps there’s really no need for that, because all it takes to see smart people are cool is to spend some time doing some online searches about cool smart people such as Mayim Bialik, Zach Braff or Matthew McConaughey and to check out their background.

Smart is Cool Day offers a wide range of opportunities to reevaluate what is “cool” in today’s world and remember that it is completely possible to be both smart and cool at the same time!

For those who are wondering how smart they really are, it might be time to test your wits with an IQ test that can be found online. A quick search offers a variety of tests that show the intelligence quotients, such as the one at IQTest.com.

However, it is important to remember that there are all kinds of different ways to measure being “smart”, and an IQ test measures factors like problem solving abilities and reasoning. But other types of intelligence, such as social abilities or emotional intelligence, can be just as important for getting along in the world. So for those who may not be “smart” on an IQ test shouldn’t let that get them down!
