Teaching Mark the Biomechanics Behind Xing Yi Chopping Fist 👊

At the Fox's Den we don't just memorize Kung Fu forms, we put them into action! During this portion of the class I was demonstrating the Biomechanics and details behind the first road of Xing Yi.

Putting hands on someone and feeling out the motion of a technique, as well as the distances required for proper ex*****on are key to transforming simple motions in a form into functional action. This sort of training serves as an often-overlooked bridge between memorizing movement and dynamic practice in sparring.

To be able to execute a move properly and fully understand it so that it can be used to its fullest potential in real application under pressure, it must first be understood through feel and proper ex*****on.

If you like this kind of training, feel free to come try us out! We're located at 4208 Bainbridge Blvd, Chesapeake VA 23324 and are currently still accepting new students. See the difference 20 years of the experience in Kung Fu and an NSCA certified personal trainer can make to your comprehension and ex*****on!

We'll prove to you that anyone can fight! 👊

Combative Blend from Tuesday's Class this Week 👊

We were working on a Bird Form this week, which primarily utilizes techniques to deal with a clench. Clenching is essentially when someone closes the distance enough to get their hand around your neck and hold your body in place.

We discussed how to get into this position in the first place (using a Xing Yi slide in this example), how to get out of it, and how to use a simple Tai Chi step to execute a high hip toss.

Join us and learn how to turn forms into function! Traditional training backed by modern exercise science and pedagogy 😊

Costa Rica, Day 7 - The Catamaran

This was our farewell photo Ingrid generated for us as a trip summary! It was great meeting folks from all walks of life with a pension for adventure 😊

After going out for a couple drinks the night before to celebrate Sydney's birthday, we woke up to hop on board a party boat at 8:15AM. I actually ran into Sydney early — around 6:30AM, and we went to find breakfast.
The streets of Manuel Antonio seemed the least touristy of the places we'd been, and honestly a little dirty, but the people were very friendly.
After breakfast, we headed to our catamaran tour.

The catamaran was a phenomenal ride w/ four free drinks, a water slide off the back, a short snorkeling trip, and an included lunch.

We ended up back around 2PM, which was excellent, because I was ready for a nap and some reflection on the days past.

Overall, it was a phenomenal trip. I'd highly recommend G-Adventures to anyone looking for adventure travel!

Manuel Antonio/Quepos

We woke up at 5AM to get on a bus from the small town of Monteverde to arrive in Manuel Antonio/Quepos at around noon. Our guide says no one knows why the place is called Manuel Antonio – there is no known figure who established it by the name of Manuel or Antonio. Quepos came from the natives – now extinct – who used to live there.

On the way there we stopped at a station that reminded me of the ones they have along the turnpike in Florida. They even had crocodiles outside to match Florida's alligators!

We barely had time to drop our bags at the hotel before we caught a public bus to a nearby beach. There we saw a black spiny-iguana, howler monkeys, and dozens of hermit crabs along the beach as well as capuchin monkeys.

The water was warm, like a bath, and we all had a lovely swim. When we returned, my roommate, Chad, and I went out to get food with my roommate, I went out to get food with my roommate. We went out to get food at a restaurant called De La Finca, but I assumed too early and found ourselves in a quaint outdoor food court instead.

There I tried the pizza, because our guide, Ingrid, said it was phenomenal thanks to the Italian population living in Costa Rica since WWII. It was actually better than anything I had in Naples.
