It's here, it's here!! SPRING is FINALLY here!!
You know that feeling you got as a kid waking up on Christmas morning and creeping around the corner of the living room? I get that when I walk outside and see green glazing over the tops of trees and walking outside without a jacket. I even like the Bradford pears that smell like a dirty crotch ๐, but just because it means SPRING IS HERE!
Shout out to my best friend !! Happy birthday to an amazing person that is totally deserving of having the first day of spring as her birthday! She carries sunshine with her and brightens any room. Her kind words of inspiration prior to my race had a lot to do with why I pushed harder when I just wanted to stop. Love you!!!
Also, meet Trout!!! He gets to stay at hotel Vargas while the shelter is closed for the next two weeks. It's meant to be as all our animals have other animal names (a pittie named Pigeon, a little dog named Toadie, a snake named Mouse, and now a cat named Trout!) ๐๐ฆ ๐ถ๐ธ ๐๐ ๐๐

I am over the moon excited!!! I can't believe I pulled it off!
This race took more grit than I knew I had, as early on in the race I just wasn't feeling it. Albany, you've been the most amazing little city!

DO YOU STAND TALL??
Upper Crossed Syndrom is the most common distortion pattern I work with. It is characterized by rounded shoulders and a forward tilted head. We perform many of our tasks with our shoulders hunched forward. Computers, reading books, and smart phones are big culprits. Being in this position frequently causes shortened, or tight, chest, neck, and shoulder muscles which pulls the shoulders forward even more. On the other side, back muscles are lengthened and weak.
Stretching the chest, strengthening the back, and a conscious effort to keep our posture can help prevent and correct misalignment.
๐1.Stretch the chest by pulling your arm back against a wall or door frame and rotate away gently pulling on the pectoral (chest). Hold for 30 seconds.
2.Lay on a pillow or stability ball letting shoulders fall back, opening the chest. ๐ This is also a great position to open your heart for recieving in a yogi-spiritual kind of way๐
3. Sit or stand keeping the spine straight. Reach your arm out and to the ground and gently pull your head in the opposite direction stretching the sternocleidomastoid (that's a serious neck muscle name, right?)
๐ชStrengthen the back with various styles of rows and pushups. When doing chest press, keep shoulder blades pressed to the bench.
๐ถโโ๏ธWhen exercising or walking be conscious to tuck your chin and pull the shoulders back. Invision trying pull your shoulder blade into your back pocket.
๐ซ Practice using good posture daily. Think about standing like you have your hands in your back pockets as opposed to your front. If there are already muscle imbalances giving a hunched appearance be patient and consistent. It took years to get that way and correction won't happen over night๐.

Many of us love running with our dogs, but in summer it can be DANGEROUS.
๐ A dog's normal body temperature is between 100.0ยฐ-102.5ยฐ and they can only cool themselves through panting since they can't sweat like us. Brachiocephalic (smoosh faced), specifically English and French Bulldogs, Boxers, the Saint Bernard, Pugs, and Shih Tzu, have an even harder time leaving them even more susceptible to heat stroke. Statistically only 50% of dogs survive heat stroke!
Signs include lethargy, rapid breathing, pale and/or sticky gums, vomiting and diarrhea. If you see this get them to cool area quickly, wet them down and let it evaporate off them, or rush them to the vet.
Also that pavement is hot!!! Just at 86ยฐ the temperature gets up to 135ยฐ and you can fry an egg at 131ยฐ! Even if the sun is going down it is still hot down there so opt for grass. A dog came into the vet a couple days ago unable to walk because it was taken for a run in the afternoon๐ฅ. Morning is the best time for long walks or short runs and bring a collapsible water dish.
And obviously, don't leave your pup in the car. If it's only 75 outside your car will heat to 94 within 10 minutes!
It may be sad to shut the door in your dog's face, but we have to protect them, because they would do anything to protect us. Maybe make up for it by taking them for a nice swim!

There's always a way to get something done, it's just a matter of the lens you're looking through. Once I changed my lens to one of possibilities many more things seem to fall in place. I broke up my run so I could run early (I love running early, I'm a weirdo like that๐) and still run with coach Katie, and . I met some awesome new running buddies today!!!
I thought about adding in some speed play this morning but my hip flexor said no. I did get a couple rewarding, soul freeing strides in though. Better than icecream. And I freaking LOVE icecream!!๐จ๐ฆ๐

When my headlight went out the rain turned on. When I sped up my stomach churned. The rain actually felt good and I was able to get some amazing feeling strides in at the end. But signs are pointing to me needing to slow down before marathon training kicks up. Just like I can't expect my headlight to work endlessly without recharging it, I can't expect my body to either.

I am so thankful that I got to run and thankful for my family that came to see me run today. Too many days go by that I am not consciously grateful for my body and my busy little family!

Family day at Mammoth National Park! Thank goodness my husband is a strong dude because he had to carry Tate through 2 miles of winding caves! This park BEAUTIFUL this time of year! 14 miles total today!

When there's a will there's a way! Forgot Pigeon's leash ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ so using my scarf! Also looked at one of the colleges my oldest is interested in. So GORGEOUS!!
