DragonCon Hilton Safety

Quick question!

How many volunteers from the Hilton made it to the Volunteer Day?

It is a bit of a hike to commute from Florida, but it would be so nice to hang out and visit with all the folks we work with every year without being dragged away every few minutes by the next convention emergency!

Just thinking about it I feel like I'm talking myself into it. Give a shout out if you made it to the event this year!

With our recent Safety Director's meeting, we are looking forward to the revamp of our Dragoncon Safety Training Videos.

Safety has been using the last version with only small changes / additions every year, so I'm very interested in what they are looking to add or change.

It will of course take a few months of writing and production until it is ready for use, and then all of our volunteers from our "walk ons" to our Senior Director will be completing the new version of the training.

I hope that everyone has started off the new year the best that it can be! Also hope everyone is staying warm throughout these cold months.

RETURNING volunteer registration is OPEN!!! Get a heads start and have yours done and out of the way so you won't forget later.. like I probably would.

Stay healthy, stay safe, and stay in touch with your Con family! Keep in mind that some of our volunteers that we see only for those five days each year may not have family or friends close to them through the rest of the year. Many of our volunteers fall upon hard times, and without reaching out throughout the year we will never know it. Let's keep the TEAM and FAMILY together all year long, not just at Con, and make sure that we increase the success of each and every one of us being there Labor Day weekend for many years to come!

I hope everyone has had happy holidays so far!! Please keep in mind that Holidays are not easy for some people that tou may know. Take the time to reach out to someone you may not have heard from in a while, or even someone you talked to yesterday. For some, every day is a struggle that you may not know about. Let's stay strong, as a team, together and assure we are all doing the best we can, even if that's not good at all. Bottom line is we all need to stick together and watch out for one another, not just at Con but all year long. If you follow this group, likely you've been here a while and know many others in the group. Take the time today, Christmas Day and reach out to someone and brighten their day.

Great night catching up with Andrew E. Kirk @ Folklore Brewery and Meadery in Dothan, Alabama. If you haven't visited this place, I highly recommend adding it on your to do list, especially on an event night!

Helloooooooo beautiful people!!! As we near our favorite time of year where we empty our savings accounts to pay to volunteer , yet keep coming back and doing it again.. Something about the definition of insanity.. OH, gotta get to the point..

Every year we grow stronger, and have established a strong leadership base. Now we need to work on building beyond the leadership, and get more volunteers to come see how awesome it is to be a part of the team that makes it happen!

So with over 500 people following this page, each one of you has to know at least one person that has never had the opportunity to let their geek flag fly without judgement for a whole five days.

I challenge each of you to talk just one person into volunteering this year. Let's build our team bigger and establish an even bigger crew that will keep coming back year after year.

Hello Hilton Leads!

Jaster here,

The first meeting of many for your Safety Directors are starting as the higher ups are putting a more formal documentation in writing for our Standard Operating Proceedures. (Just having this brief meeting has stirred that Dragon Con energy, and it makes me realize how much I'm looking forward to working with our team again!)

This Safety SOP mostly means organization of the signage and line procedures we use in our hotel into a formal document for all of Safety. Right now it means a lot of computer work for me in the close future, in effort to bring all the hotels into a similar and concise format. But in the next few months it will mean reading in all of our leads in on anything new.

What we need immediately is a call out of all of our returning leads.

We are looking for Leads and Seconds for each of the 3 shifts.
So please reach out to us if you are interested in returning as a Hilton Lead for 2024!

I hope that everyone is in good health and looking forward to the upcoming holidays!

Keep in mind that holidays are hard for some, different reasons for many. Take some time over these holidays to reach out to family and friends, especially some you might not have head from in a while. Just let someone know that you're there and you care.

DragonCon 2025 will be here before we know it. Keep a look out for what is planned for Volunteer Appreciation in the next few months. This year was pretty smooth, considering we were running on the bare minimum of what we needed. Be sure you get any notes or concerns to Jaster or myself so we can be aware of problems and habe an opportunity to solve them by next Con. Keep recruiting throughout the year and help build our team bigger and stronger. Reach out through this site to keep in touch throughout the year and share your recruiting techniques. Add those you recruit to the group and assure they stay in the loop and are informed.

I hope that everyone had a good and safe Memorial Day weekend, and like me paid respects to those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country's freedom.

We are now under 100 days till DragonCon (I actually starrtd those post a couple days ago)
So, that means everyone should have their time off requests in and be assuring their reservations are straight or working to facilitate room share. I think there are maybe three different room groups or more on Facebook, so hopefully everyone can find something within their price range. Many offer crash space for cheap if you're willing to sleep on the floor. We hope this is never the reason anyone can't attend. If so, drop a message in response to this and with as many followers as we have, we should by now have the resources to at least point you in a direction if not create a solution.

***Let's get a roll call of everyone that plans to attend!! This helps us get an idea of what to submit for needs. Reach out to those you are close with if they don't respond through this threat let us know if you find out a status. It's nice for our leadership to have an idea of what our needs will be from general pool volunteers.

****RECRUIT!! RECRUIT!! RECRUIT!! Help us build your team bigger and stronger. The more volunteers we have return each con the less we have to train, making for an entirely smoother con each year. So your new recruits should be able to complete the application process, register at DragonCon-security.com, create thier profile, and sign up for hours. The sooner the better to get the hours they want!!

Please never forget that each and every one of you are valued!! We are proud of the team we have built and hope to see as many return as possible. Our leadership will never want to push for more than you want to contribute, and will be flexible to assure you 1. Get to attend all the panels and parties at the top of your list. And 2 work with you flexibly to assure you get all the hours you need to stay in good standing and attend Dead Dog party if you want and can. Simplicity to that is just communicate with Jaster or myself and we will do everything we can to make it work.

Between now and then, I hope you all get some good quality time with your kids on summer break if you're a parent, and look forward to seeing you in three short months!!

Dragon Con Safety: Login Screen The first year you volunteer for a position with Dragon Con staff you will be asked to pay $20 for your badge. As long as you get in the minimum number of hours for the weekend you will receive a no-cost badge the next year.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying warm during Mother Nature's bi-polar rage.

I encourage each of you to take a moment to reach out and say happy holidays to someone you haven't talked to or heard from in a while. Holidays can be lonely times for some, and you may just be the ray of sunshine that person needs.
