A stranger sent me this photo of myself in my twenties. I smiled — then I saw something I couldn’t see back then.
That young woman wasn’t hoping to become a model. She’d already decided. That’s not ambition in the frame. It’s embodiment — she became it first, and let the proof catch up.
By eighteen I knew the vision. What I didn’t know was that wanting it wasn’t the work. Becoming it was.
Mississippi to the San Francisco Bay Area. A psychologist, because I didn’t know how to be. A room of young models who practiced every week until we became the ones who won. Then Milan.
I’d have said I was modeling. I know now I was building perception infrastructure. I just had no name for it yet.
Then my career ended, and I lost a child. I began again from grief, asking the only questions left: who am I now, who can I become, and what can I contribute from this?
That was perception infrastructure too.
The kind you build in the dark.
The human being is the original technology. I’m the first case study of my own claim.🤍
