The first episode of The History Channel's new series, "I Was There," concerns the Hindenburg disaster.

Anne Springs Close, philanthropist, greenway founder and Fort Mill benefactor, dies 11/03/2021

I have fond memories of meeting Mrs. Close, who flew on LZ-129 Hindenburg as a child, at Lakehurst.

(While she is sometimes referred to as the "last surviving person to have flown on Hindenburg," happily Horst Schirmer is still alive and well and so that is not fortunately not accurate.)

Anne Springs Close, philanthropist, greenway founder and Fort Mill benefactor, dies “York County mourns the loss of one of our greatest leaders and visionaries.” Anne Springs Close’s legacy includes education and recreation in South Carolina.
