In April, 2003, the Auburn (CA) City Council unanimously voted to accept the proposed proclamation that Auburn is the Endurance Capital of the World™.

Auburn, California is home to some of the most challenging and historic endurance events on the planet. Its signature events, The Tevis Cup 100-Miles-One-Day Endurance Equestrian Ride (est.1955) and the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run (est. 1974), are the oldest and most venerable endurance events of their kind in the world.
