Rappelling ~100ft drop after a good hike. Two first timers tagged along and did great as my wife photographed us. Caught plenty of great scenery, the decent and some great instruction on my GoPro. One who strives to be okay with absolute solitude, strives for some type of enlightenment that enables delight in absolute solitude yet none of us are beasts (eg tigers) or gods.

Using a sharp rock, I cut a square into the bark and peeled it away, revealing the inner pine bark. You will notice the inner bark is slippery and the taste is bitter and not very great. The closer you get to the center of the tree, the sweeter the inner bark becomes when eaten raw. You can always cook the bark. Pine tree cones carry seeds that are edible and full of nutrition, the pine needles are high in vitiman C and the inner bark is edible as well. This could save you in a Survival situation.

Perfect example of moss growing on the northern side in the northern hemisphere. This could save ur ass if ur lost.

Tip: When going down a steep slope you will want to "zig zag" down the slope, dig your heels in, take your time, position yourself so you fall into the slope instead of away from it and remember keep a bend in your knees. (picture of Merc coming back off the mointain after morning PT w the unit)

Last post for today: ALL food will be hung in a food cache. We will use a special hanging system to prevent ravenous as***le Bears from stealing our only food source, instead they can just watch it dangle in heartbreak and also quite aways downwind from our shelter to try and prevent one of us getting mauled to death.

Last year we built a shelter out of a Pine Tree. The shelter successfully kept us safe from most of the elements. It was cold and raining but most of the rain was caught by the tree. One of the biggest issues we had wasnt our fire getting drowned or wild animals, it was our food source. We couldnt snare anything and ended up eating one emergency MRE for the day, miles away from our shelter. Little did we know we had a food source right above our heads... Pine tree needles can make Tea high in vitiman C BUT stay clear of Norfolk Pine and Ponderosa pine as they are poisonous, ALL pines inner bark are edible, raw or cooked and so is the pine nuts you find in pine cones all high in protein and fiber.
