Welp. I set up my room for the year. It looks nothing like the 20 other classroom setups I’ve created and I have a feeling this entire year will be different.

But some things will remain the same.

My love and excitement for my students will always be the same.

We will still learn every day and have fun doing it.

I will still be goofy and do anything for a laugh.

We will still get frustrated sometimes.

We will still cheer for each other as we work through those frustrations.

We will still break into spontaneous dance parties when we just need a break.

My coworkers will still make me smile (under my mask) and laugh a million times a day.

We will persevere and come out stronger than we knew possible.

All of those things will happen regardless of our location. Whether we’re in this classroom or not, we are 4K! @ Aurora, Illinois

I’m tired of being afraid.
Teachers, at some point in the future, we’re all going to be back in the classroom with lots of germy kids. It’s going to happen.
Instead of being afraid of getting sick, I’ve decided I’m going to spend the remaining days of summer working on improving my mental state and my immune system. Stress is toxic and will only make us more susceptible to all kinds of illness.
My mission is to figure out a way to manage this stress while making my body the strongest and healthiest virus fighting machine. I will share all that I’m learning with you and together we can create a community of healthy teacher-mamas. (PS-you don’t have to be a teacher or a mama to benefit from a healthy body!)
My first action item I’ll be taking is to spend 30 minutes every morning in prayer and reading my bible. I feel most at peace when I start my day centered on my Heavenly Father. You can also meditate or just quietly journal every morning.

About a week and a half ago, I woke up with a horrible stomach bug. I was nauseous, had major gastro-intestinal issues, and couldn’t eat. My symptoms lasted on and off for a week. I had a Covid test which came back negative thank goodness! But I was still feeling horrible. After a trip to the doctor, and some tests that were run, it was determined that I had a food-borne parasite called cyclospora. I am currently on a strong antibiotic and feeling so much better. However, I have lost a lot of strength and stamina from the illness. Yesterday was day one for me of a brand new workout program and I felt like an 80-year-old woman trying to complete the 40 minute workout. But I did it! I modified like crazy and took breaks, but I finished. I’m about to press play on Day 2’s workout and I am reminded what a gift our health is! Every day that we are healthy is precious. I am forcing myself to focus on how to improve my health even more and live every day to the fullest! For me part of that includes handling my stress in a more healthy way. What area of your health are you ready to start focusing on?

I’m crushing on tonight’s dinner hard core! Steak and potato skillet with a spinach salad. But the stars of the show are the croutons. Regular ole croutons, you ask? Yes. Because I made them. These delicious nuggets are simply rustic Italian bread, drizzled with olive oil, and seasoned with s&p, garlic and onion powders. They spent about 20 minutes in a 375 degree oven and they are bomb! Are you a crouton kinda gal?

Did you know your brain actually needs time to kind of shut down and disconnect every day? That’s what my workouts are for me. I zone out, do what the trainer is telling me, and forget about all my responsibilities for 30 minutes a day. And you know what usually happens during that time? I have epiphanies or I figure out a solution to a problem I’m having. It’s amazing! What do you do throughout your day to create “white space?”

I’m always trying to figure out how to sneak even a little veggies into my breakfast. Avocado toast seems the most reasonable vehicle! Here’s what’s going on here: 1 slice of seedy bread toasted, quarter of an avo schmeared on toast, baby spinach, fried egg and a few slices of turkey lunch meat on top! (The deli meat gives me that “breakfast sandwich” feel without a ton of calories and fat. I try to buy deli meat without nitrates!)

I did yoga in my dark basement today. You know, like a “real studio.” 😂 I’ve taken a break from my more intense workout programs because I felt a weird knee pain that scared me. So far this week I’ve done 3-4 mile walks + 30 minutes of yoga every day. And I 👏feel 👏fantastic👏! I think it’s just what my body and mind needed. A little reset, if you will. Sometimes you have to quit pushing so hard, and just BE. Are you a yoga lover? These yoga workouts are on my OnDemand program I use for all my other workouts. 🙌

“Some women fear the fire, some women simply become it.” -R.H. Sin

This girl of mine has always had a fire in her and she amazes me daily. She is constantly thinking of new ideas and innovations and then girlfriend figures out how to get it done! Her determination is simply inspiring. My wish for you, sweet Olivia, is that your fire never dies and you continue to light fires in those around you.
